Try Freakenomics, I'm waiting for my copy to get to me but it has had rave reviews and I constantly hear it mentioned at business dinners and on TV. Not "serious" though

The best book I have read recently is "Kite Runner". Although it is serious it definately a must read. Also serious but amazing is "My Sister's Keeper". Another great but not to serious book is "Marley and ME". It is funny and poiniant and a must for any animal lovers.

I just read a Nicholas Sparks book called True Believer. It was o good that I read it in 2 nights, and then I went out and bought the sequel called At First Sight. All of his books are easy reads and very good stories. I would recommend anything that he has written.

Something by Clive Cussler might be good. Cussler is action/adventure/mystery and usually infused with some comedy. I think his books are usually pretty entertaining to read and not too heavy.

IF your looking for suspenseful romance...Nora Roberts is great! They are hard to put down! The only one I have found that I don't really like is Northern lights but the rest are great! SHe has all different types So I would just go to a bookstore and pick out the one that interests you most

Johanna Lindsey is a good historical romance writer! Most of hers are set in England. Great reads and they are relaxing because they take no thought you just lose yourself in the story!

I have long been a fan of V.C. Andrews. Her "Flowers in the Attic" series is simply engrossing, and all her other books are awsome as well.

R.A. Salavatore is good if you like fantasy sci-fi type reads.

Terry Prachet is funny and interesting as well with his Disc-World series. He is also not "too serious" at all.

I also like books by Christine Feehan, Laurell K. Hamilton and Sherrilyn Kenyon (paranormal romances)

one of my favorite authors is jodi picoult. all of her books present a seemingly black and white case or situation, but then you see the "grey". her books are easy reads that you get sucked into, without being trashy romance-y types. my favorite is Plain Truth. I also love My Sister's Keeper and The Pact, although to be honest i've read all but 5 of her 14 books out, and i'm about to start another.

for something totally different, try the Outlander series by diana gabaldon. to me, it sounds hokey but-- it's about a british WWII nurse and her husband who go on a second honeymoon to scotland right after the war and she ends up "falling" through some portal in these rocks to another time-- like 300 years (i think) in the past, and has to survive... she meets this man who saves her and she's forced to marry him... which sounds predictable, but it's got some good historical fiction meets romance meets adventure meets women's lib type stuff... pure fluff and enjoyment that doesn't make you think too much but they are addictive! i'm only on book 2 of like 8 or something, but all my coworkers are reading them and they got me sucked in.

Judy Blume has some great books for adults. I also love Janet Evonovich. She has the Stephanie Plum series and a couple of other books. They are all well writtenm, the characters are GREAT and they're really funny books. They're pretty short reads too.

I would recommend any book by Nicholas Sparks because..well..he's my favorite author and he is such a great writer. I always get into each of his books.

If you are into suspense/horror types, I strongly recommend anything by Dean Koontz. I love all of his books. The Odd Thomas series is really good. They are 1)Odd Thomas 2)Forever Odd and 3)Brother Odd. He has lots of good stories, you sould check him out! Good luck!

I've gotten into some really good books lately by Beverly Lewis. She is a Christian writer, and a lot of her books are fictional, based on the Amish lifestyle. They are very interesting and informative, and there is no offensive language or situations in her books. One series is "The Postcard" and "The Crossroad", and another I've read is The Heritage of Lancaster County series, consisting of "The Shunning", "The Confession", and "The Reckoning". Both series are great, but I think I did like the second one better :) Good luck!
