It's Been 13 Weeks Since My Last Period and Still Getting Negative Hpt's?

My last cycle began on March 23rd, I had light brown spotting for about an hour on April 24th, and there's still no sign of my cycle. I've taken about a hundred HPT's and I saw an extremely faint line on the test area of a few of the tests... I'm just curious, how common is a false negative? What can cause a false negative?

(I have a blood test scheduled for tomorrow because I'm absolutely sick of waiting for Aunt Flo to show!)

What can I do next?

I never did test possitive with an over the counter preg. test. My son is now 17 years old. I tried it again when I was 2 1/2 months preg. with him and it still showed negative. I would go ahead and get that blood test.

Do you drink a lot of water? That could cause a false negative because the pregnancy hormone gets too diluted to be detected.

Another possible reason is, it could be that your body isn't producing much of the pregnancy hormone, in spite of being pregnant. If you aren't experiencing any pregnancy symptoms, this would be the reason why. But, this is also often the case with miscarriage (which is why morning sickness is a good sign). I think it is possible that you have miscarried and your body is still working through the pregnancy hormones, enough that you're not getting periods but not enough to be detected (especially if you drink a lot of water or other fluids every day).

Hi L.! I received a false negative test one time and it was because the test was old. So that could be one reason.. however, everytime I hear someone say the found a faint line, I immediately think that you need to go get a blood test to verify what is going on. I'm pregnant now and the first test I took was very faint but now I'm 13 weeks pregnant. I have also heard a few stores where some woman who are pregnant, sometimes never show a positive test until late in their pregnancy. So I wouldn't rule anything out and get with your Dr. about it. They can do the blood test and ultrasounds if necessary. Good Luck!!

L.,

With my 6th pregnancy I got two false negatives, all on home pregnancy tests I bought at WalMart. I think the tests themselves were defective. When my period had still not started a week after the bad tests, I took another set from Dillons (a grocery store) and they both came back positive. A blood test will tell you for sure whether or not you are pregnant.

Oh yes, when I had my ectoptic pregnancy the positive line was very faint and in my mind the pregnancy was just not normal. So that's a possibility too.

If you see any kind of line, no matter how faint (at the time the directions say to check) the test is positive. If you are in doubt, go to your doctor & they can tell for sure. If your tests really have been negative, then you may need a blood test.

Where did you buy the pregnancy tests?

We bought 2 at a Dollar General and both of them (the prego line) were very faint...you could hardly see it.

With my last pregnancy, we found out we were prego w/my 2nd child was 5 months old. I didn't think it was positive, but my husband so the faint line and we were. I was breast feeding and didn't think I would get prego since I never did after my 1st child. It can happen though....! ha!
Let us know what the blood test showed.
Good Luck, Sydne

Even a faint line is a line. I threw away my very first pregnancy test with my first child because the line was very faint and I didn't think I was pregnant. Then I changed the way I looked at it and thought would I be worried about that line if I DIDN'T want to be pregnant? I thought that was where the line if I were pregnant. I was actually pregnant. Try testing again in the morning the first time you go to the bathroom. If it still seems negative, call your doctor.

If you are getting any sort of line at all, that means your hormone levels are raised for some reason - get that blood test, girl! :)
