Is This a YAHOO Scam?

I just received an email from YAHOO saying that they will be closing down used and unused accts unless you confirm your login though the browser link that was attached. Is this a scam? I know that they will close out accounts if they have not been logged into for I think 30 days or more. I know I have a 2nd acct that I use for junk and I have to check into it every so often or it gets shut down. I am hoping that this is just a scam I can ignore it. Have any of you received an email like this?

What can I do next?

I don't think it's a YAHOO scam, but someone is posing as representing YAHOO in order to obtain your log in information.
Classic phishing.
Delete it and do not click on the link(s).

I assume you received this email after logging into your Yahoo account....which means you have logged in within 30 days....forward the email to Yahoo Help so they are aware of this scam and then check it as Spam.

Yes, pretty much anything telling you to log into an account & providing a link (unless you specifically requested to change a password or something) is always a scam. Delete & forget it.

You've got some good reponses below so I won't repeat what they said. But I do want to mention that if you have to question if something is a scam, it usually is. Listen to your intuition, it's often your best guide.

Good for you for asking, juset to make sure!

total scam...yahoo won't ask you to do that.

Yahoo will tell you to GO TO YOUR account but NOT give you a link to log in from.

You can also contact Yahoo.com/help I believe it is.

Sounds like a scam to me. I have a yahoo acct that I sometimes go more than a month without checking.
You can hover the mouse over the link and it will show you where it goes.

I got the same email. I deleted it.

You will notice that when a yahoo email is sent it has the little yahoo symbol next to the email.

Also if you hover over the link with your mouse but don't click, in the bottom of your browser it will show you a website it is going to. I did this and it was some off the wall site not even including the name yahoo.

I marked it as spam and deleted it.

Yes, it's a scam. NEVER click on links or open attachments in emails. You can always go to yahoo.com and sign into your account. They will not close them if you don't log in for 30 days.

If it sounds fishy, then it is. I once got an email supposedly from Paypal saying that I needed to verify something or whatever and it had a link. I knew right away that it wasn't from the real Paypal, even though it looked very legitimate (logos, all the lingo in the email) but if it were really from them, it would have told me to log into my account (not from a link). And I got 'emails' supposedly from my bank asking me to do the same thing. You should at least contact Yahoo customer service and just alert them to the scam (that's what I do when I get something) so they can know that a scam is going around (not like this is the only Yahoo scam around), but the more they know about, the better they can protect their members.

Definitely a scam!!

I always go directly to the company website. I NEVER click on a link within an email. I get so many of those kinds of emails, I'm sick of them but unfortunately, there's not much we can do to stop them; only protect ourselves by not clicking on any links. In fact, I very seldom even open emails unless I definitely know the sender.

Also, if it IS from Yahoo, you will see their little logo right next to the sender's name. Still not always a guarantee but it's something to look for.

Good luck!!

It is a scam. You have to log in every 90 days or they will delete any saved messages you have, but they will not shut down your account.
