just curious if there is a 24 hour fever virus going around with not too many other symptoms but loss of appetite?

We also had the off and on fever with no other symptoms that turned out to be strep. Make sure to keep an eye on it!
Started what I thought was a virus on Thursday ... Fever sorta controlled with Tylenol and Advil; also had loss of appetite. Went to doctor with kiddo on Saturday ... lo, and behold, he was positive for strep. If it continues, get tested. Strep is out there right now.
We've had a lot of lingering bugs going around the kids this spring.
My son had a fever of 102 (not constant but kept coming back) for about 5 days before it went away for good.
Had a virus last week. DD with moderate fever (103F), loss of appetite and nausea, a week later I came down with it, just generally feeling awful, nauseous and I ended up puking. 2 days and it was all over.

My GD had it last week. Only symptoms were as you describe - fever and loss of appetite. She missed 2 days of school.
