Hi moms,
So, my 11 y/o daughter is sick, but I am not sure what she has. She has had a cold for the last few weeks, and last night, she started getting bad stomach aches, bad headaches, and she felt like she was going to throw up, but she didn't. Her hands were also cold and sweaty. So, last night she did not want dinner, so she just went to bed early, because she was so miserable. This morning she woke up with a temperature of 101 degrees, and her hands are still cold and sweaty. She also has a sore throat, that she says hurts almost as much as it did when she had strep throat, a few months ago. She is going from being hot to cold, and back to hot again, then cold, etc. She also feels nauseas again, but she has not thrown up. Her stomach hurts and her head hurts again. I am not sure what is wrong, not sure if I should call the doctor? She is currently sleeping, with the blanket off, in only shorts and a tank top, since she is hot. She has 4 siblings that she could have caught something from, except all of them just have slight colds, nothing like her. What should I do???? I really want my daughter to feel better soon!

Do any of you moms know what she has,. or what I should do?

Thank you, and advice would be very appreciated!!!

Thanks again!

So What Happened?

Ok, moms. So, as you may have seen in my latest question, my daughter is now in the hospital, for Strep Throat, Fever, and Whooping cough. Yikes! Right now she is doing ok, but she will be spending the night and will be in the hospital a while. I'll keep you posted!

Call the dr. She may have strep again and it may be something else but if there is a possibility that it's strep you want to get it under control before everyone gets it!

It does sound like a round two of Strep. Take her into the doctor. In the meantime, Throat Coat tea from Traditional Medicinals, steeped for about ten minutes might ease her throat. She needs as much fluids as possible to prevent dehydration. Gatorade, tea, broth, etc.

Call the doctor and get her in right away.

I hope she feels better soon. Keep us posted.

Hugs to you Mama!

No one here can see her or evaluate her like your doctor can. The symptoms you're describing are indicative of hundreds of viruses. Call your doctor.

I would guess that the cold has turned into a bacterial infection (probably strep), and she needs antibiotics. Take her to the doctor and continue to treat the symptoms.

Just take her to the Doctor.
That is better than guessing.

Also, a person can be sick and have a "cold" then either get a relapse or, they can get another cold/virus strain. It not being the same as the previous cold. That is what happened to my son, once.
Back to back, illnesses. But a different virus.

And also, secondary infections can occur too.

And the Flu... is already hitting my city. Kids in school and adults, getting it and getting sick.

Just last week, my daughter's classmate was home with the Flu. For 1 week she was out of school.
For example.

Just take your daughter, to the Doctor.
Because then, you CAN get a diagnosis.
Not guessing.

Headaches and stomachache are symptoms of strep. It is best to go to doc to confirm.

This is how my 2 kids started out and ended up with fever for 4 and 6 days at which point we started antibiotics... fever was gone and they were like 75% better within 24 hours of the antibiotics. There never was a specific organism found (strep etc) but the dr wanted to do the antibiotics because of the length of fever. With mine they both had a minor cold for a few days before the fever came. You could wait it out a couple more days if you want but if the headache continues or comes back then I would get her in right away. You don't want to mess with meningitis and that is really going around right now.

Definitely call the doctor. It's not any one symptom, but the combination is worrying.

Absolutely get her to the doctor. Could be a strep throat again. that is not something you want to let go on as it can cause damage. You can have a Strep without a sore throat. Sometimes the symptoms are nausea, stomach and maybe headache.

Lowgrade fever, chills, nausea, headache, sore throat?

Cold/Flu is most likely, although it could be bacterial (like strep, etc.). If you're concerned, just call the docs office, let them know, and ask if you should bring her in.
