Is it safe to start tring for baby #2 after just having my period once? (Baby #1 is almost 13 months.) Or should I wait a few cycles? Problem is...prior to baby, I never got my period less than 1 time a year. I had to take meds to get my period and Clomid to ovulate. So, now that I have a period, I'd like to try for a baby but am worried that the uterus isn't ready yet. What do you think? My yearly gyno appointment is coming up, but it's after my fertile days.

What can I do next?

I got pregnant after my 2nd period...when my baby was only 9 months old! My kids are 18 months apart, and my second pregnancy went very smoothly. Baby was born on time weighing 7 lb 10 oz, very healthy, and my health is fine. Hope that helps!

Yes, its safe. Once your body resumes cycling again, its affirming that you are fertile and able to carry safely. Your hormone levels have returned, therefore able to build the endometrium and shed it, so it is able to resume nourishing a baby. Many women after using clomid to conceive have gotten pregnant without it for their second. Guess sometimes the pregnancy levels out everything. I'm assuming the reason your period took so long to return is that you were nursing? If so, and you still are, it is safe also to nurse and conceive, so no need to wean unless you are high risk for miscarriage or pre-term labor. Good luck!

My children and 11 and 13. After my first, my ob/gyn advised that I should wait a year before having a second as my body needed time to adjust.

I say go for it.

Good Luck.
