No I am not.
I am a SAHM, so I don't 'have to' look all like I am on my way to a corporate destination.

Personally, I just dress as I am. Meaning, my own style. I don't dress to impress. I dress, as who I am.
But when I was working, I did dress all appropriate, office wise. Hence, looking like those women. Because is it necessary... as a member of a corporate office. And looking Professional.

Women dress because:
1) it is who they are and they can dress as who they are.
2) they are on their way somewhere and have to dress the part. It is life. ie: for a job.
3) They dress for their Husbands, because they want to.
4) They dress to feel good about themselves. Whatever style that is.
5) They dress, a certain way out of habit... even if that means, like how they did 10 years ago. Hair and clothing.
6) they dress just to be comfortable.
7) They dress a certain way because their Husbands are critical or they think if they don't, then their Man will stray or something.

I am not a Perfectionist... in dress or in my house.
My house is clean, I clean everyday, but it is a house in which you know that kids live there, too. It is not a museum or all anally clean.
I am human.
I am a "Mom" and I dress per the weather too.
I go with the flow.
But I am presentable.
Personally, I do not like, dressing up everyday. Unless I have to.
Nor do I ever feel, that I have to look like those other Moms or women.
I really, don't care what they look like. As compared to myself. I am me. They are them.

Make-up who? I have 3 kids. Couldnt tell you the last time I mopped the floors. In my defense, I do have a newborn.

I used to be hot. *sighs*

I am lucky if I can get a shower every day.
Most days I end up settling for every other day.
It's a good day if I get my teeth brushed before lunch.

Heels?
Lipstick?
I gave those up when I had kids.

Ahh, the life of a SAHM.

Yesterday, I put on heels, blew out/curled my hair, put on makeup, and vacuumed the house. I was in the middle of a Nancy Sinatra binge. It was awesome.

It's not unheard of to find me in pajamas the at noon.

LOL... 6 of 1, half a dozen of another.

I ALWAYS wear makeup.. takes me 2-5 minutes tops, is my 'war paint', my sunscreen, my whatever. I don't feel awake until I do. The only time I have skipped makeup on purpose is when I was literally wearing war paint.

I "always" (a few time a year I don't) have my hair done. I have ringlet curly hair so thick it will stand out 9 inches from my head with very little help. I have 2 options; either style it (curly or straight) or look like the wild woman of borneo. Wild Woman of Borneo is morally depressing to me (not to mention occasionally outright scary) so I avoid it at all costs.

You're most apt to find me in ripped jeans and a camisole and barefoot.

My house is... hmmm.... how shall we put this? Fluid. When I'm on my A-game, it's gorgeous. When I'm not it looks like someone turned it upside down and shook it. I haven't been on my A game for a few months now. I am also 2 years into DIY remodeling that should be done in another 2 or 3 years. (For example, there are 2 walls down to studs at the moment, and I have no back yard because I rototiller it under 3 months ago, and then my son started going in and out of Children's Hospital for several weeks at a time and I hurt my shoulder. I'm hoping to have grass in a few weeks. I'm also ripping carpet out upstairs.)

When I worked full time, I was a buyer in an upscale retail store and then a store manager, so I was always dressed with makeup and hair coiffed..

Now I have to search for my make up and am losing my hair. I wear the same 3 tops each week.. and I noticed I have worn a hole in my shoes!!!!

If any of my old employees or co workers saw me now, they would be shocked..

I personally wouldn't be mistaken for someone who is super-groomed. I'm clean and look presentable, but aside from blow-drying the bangs and combing out the rest, I'm pretty low maintenence.

That said, could we call people who like to do the full-on polish something else? Just because they are 'put together' doesn't mean they are mindless husband-obeying zombies. Women who do all that work obviously value it more than I do. Why begrudge it? I knew a woman on my ship (Navy) that always got her makeup on and her hair was impeccable when we mustered at 7a.m.-- she got up early to do it. The term "Stepford Wife" is kind of demeaning and judgmental, in my opinion. I don't think you meant it that way, but I'd just thought I'd throw that observation out there.

I describe myself as the "Nutty Professor," because I always show up to day care late, work clothese crinkled, crumbs on my face (from the kid), and hair all out of place. Ironically, I actually carry a teaching position at my job that allows me to technically be called a professor! Thus, the description.

I always envisioned myself as being a Stepford wife. I even wore heels until my 7th month of my FIRST pregnancy (learned my lesson, stayed in Danskos all throughout my second, lol).

I'm about as farfrom a Stepford Wife as you can get -although I do look like the women you described at drop off simy because I'm on my way to work!

When I worked full time is was always put together. Full makeup hair and the perfect strappy high heel! I've been a sahm for 4 yrs now and if its higher than a flip flop forget it! Im complete opposite of who I used to be. I don't smell or anything but its not a priority! Matter of fact I put my juicy couture perfume on everyday if I leave the house or not!

I'm more go with the flow about the house then I am with myself. I just act and feel more put together if I look the part! I know I'm a mess, but don't want it to be so obvious to everyone else =)

When scrubbing the toilets last, I wore my pearls. Does that count??

I don't care how I look but i do like a clean house & clean kids (at least before they get in bed). I like to wear old worn clothes that are comfy & yes I will wear them out of the house. Sometimes I think someone will take a pic of me & post it on that walmart sight about people who look like they cannot afford anything. But I am ok with that because I am comfortable within myself., and yes I do run into people but I still don't care.

Since my kids are getting older & I am fast approaching the big 40, I am trying to 'get my groove back' & dress presentable with makeup & control my unruly crazy curly hair. I just bought a whole new wardrobe & little by little the price tags are coming off.

I don't wear much make-up, but always have on lipgloss, and have very high-maintenance hair. When I leave the house, I like to dress well, but if I'm home, it doesn't matter what time of day, I like to be in pajamas. :)

My home is neat and clean 100% of the time, but it's kept that way by all of the members of the household, not just me. My husband, oldest son, and I are all neat-freaks. My youngest son goes along because he's out-numbered. :)

LOL, I read the book when I was in High School, and barely remember it. If someone switched me for a Stepford wife it woud be SO obvious. So people get me who as I was leaving for the store today thought, "Darn, I forgot to put on foundation to hide my adult acne and roseacea." Some days I might turn around but some I don't. I figure I'll see someone I know but what the heck ;-). I am wierdly perfect about things that noone will see, such as the bills in my wallet have to be in order.....to bad it doesn't transfer to either more visible or affective areas of my life. I envy my friends who look nice though and think I should manage my time better so I can polish my nails and such on a more regular basis.

Seriously? There is no way that I have time to be perfect. I settle for just surviving. I'm lucky if I can shower and get dressed before my 18 month old throws a fit. Everything for me is rushed so that I can keep my kids happy. My house is at best lived in. It's clean dirt wise, but cluttery. But that's ok with me. I have a 1 and 3 yr old and they can undo anything I do during the day. So in efforts to not go crazy when my kids mess my house up, I'm going for lived in but not dirty and I'm ok with that. 8-)

I wish I was. I can not believe the women with a clean home, perfect hair and make up with fresh baked brownies! I want to be that woman. My conclusion is that even though it is really important to me maybe it isn't as important as I think or I'd make it a priority or routine and be prefectly presentable. Also I think I don't put myself first and finally.... And hardest to admit... I'm a little lazy! And I am like you, when I do try..a hair is out of place, there is lipstick on my teeth or some other sign that I'm just not Stepford! (even if I wish I was!) * If anyone has tips on how to look more put together, pass them on to me! I might just make a post!

I don't own lipstick, I don't usually leave the house without eyeliner, rest of the makeup when I have time. Other than vacuuming a lot since my daughter is getting the hang of scooching around, cleaning is as I find time and wow I need to find some time! But we're all happy =)

I am not surprised that there are "stepford wives" in Beverly hills!! lol
The past three days I have dropped my son off in my jammies and picked him up in the same ones. We are getting ready to move so I have been going through bedrooms, organizing, laundry, nursing, bathing...you name it. Too damn busy to get gussied up. Usually though...I am in comfy clothes, no makeup, wet hair. People should be happy that I have bathed and brushed my teeth!!! :)

I'm a go with the flow type person. My house is messy, not dirty, but lived in. My clothes are sometimes wrinkled, I don't always wear makeup and my hair is typically up in a pony tail. However, I always put some sort of perfume or body spray on. Not because I smell, but because I like the way they smell.

My daughter on the other hand...is always dressed nice, has name brand clothing, her hair is always done, and she could be a Stepford daughter lol. And, she is only 2.

I'm a go with the flow kind of gal. Sometimes I'm a 10 which is rare, most days I'm a 5. It all depends on how I feel and what crisis is going on in my life. Kudos to those gals for having the stamina to be so well put together most of the time.

I am the complete opposite of a Stepford wive......I seldom smell great...I never wear make-up and nine times outta ten you will see me either in jeans and a T-shirt...or the ever so beautiful Yoga, sweat, capri or jogging pants!

I will doll it up if we go somewhere Special...but since this seldom ever happens.

If I spent the time it would take to make this model Perfect...we would rarely leave the house. Because by the time I was able to finish, it would be bedtime:)

I am happy to be the clean slob that I am...I am more then happy not to be a Stepford wife...they dont know how to cut loose:)

I'm with you. I'm totally intimidated by the other moms. They always look so perfect and seem to be able to juggle ten billion things. I always have wet hair, no make up. I would dress in torn jeans and t-shirts every day if I could but I can't go to work that way. I don't care if the house is messy I don't cook or clean. (My husband cooks, my cleaning lady cleans). When I get home from work I just focus on playing with my son and making sure his homework is done. I just want everyone happy and healthy.

If i had the stepford gene i would love to be one, can't quiet get it together. Just a pulled together look, not necessarily tammy faye, but hair that actually looked combed when i comb it, lipgloss and bright eyes.

And since i've spend the last three days trying to get myhouse undercontroll, i want to know how people get to the point of being on top of it, Once i had itundercontroll i think i could keep it that way, but darn it the laundry keeps piling up on me.

100% "just doing the best I can"! :) I'm 42 years old and only wear make-up for "special occasions"! I totally believe that a "spotless" house is waaaaayyy less important than spending quality time with the kids. Obviously, it must be relatively clean and tidy, but if I have to pick between dusting and reading to my child, reading to my child wins hands down every time (except if I know that my In-Laws are coming to visit)! :) Nice to know I'm not the only one who isn't "the perfect housewife / mother / employee"! Cheers to all the "real" women out there! :)

I'm not a wife lol but I have started doing my hair more. It depends on my mood. Usually I take a shower the night before and let my hair naturally dry then wake up an hour before my daughter to do my hair and make up. I like dressing up most days. I have to do make up almost every day for whatever reason... just like to. Some times I have tshirt and jeans days. The house is clean most of the time. I never iron clothes, I just take them out when it's hot in the dryer and hang em and they just don't have wrinkles lol. So depending on my mood and circumstances, I am a perfectionist and go with the flow.

I agree with Ephie, if I'm having a "lazy day" I'm wearing pjs at noon.

Well, it's kind of hit or miss.

Most days I shower, put on makeup & get dressed--presentable at least -- like capris and a t-shirt that matches or jeans. Never do I stay in p.j.s though. Hate that. I 99% "do" something to my hair because we "curly hair types" HAVE to or we look like lunatics! LOL
I'm a "my shoes are on until I get ready for bed" kind of gal b/c I like to be able to GO at a moments notice.

But I do have days that I don't put on makeup and I don't feel the same as the days that I do--even if the clothing/shower/hair thing is the same.

As for my house, Iike my laundry caught up, tables dusted, floors clean ALL the time but there ARE days..."the hurrider I go the behinder I get" (as my grammy used to say).

Stepford Wife? Nah. But I do like to be prepared to run out looking presentable or not be embarrassed if someone pops by.

What a fun thought..I guess I am both. I love to get pretty but feel comfortable without make up as well. My husband loves the natural look on me (maybe because I look younger and he is 11 years younger than me, haha)..I keep a tidy and clean home because it makes me feel better but don't do it to keep up with an image..I guess that is not a huge concern to me.. how my children feel and how we feel on the inside is far more important and impressive to me than looking good on the outside. I do stay fit, love to wear nice things, enjoy the comfy and nice lifestyle that my husband and I provide ourselves but the make up and looking perfect just isn't my deal. I do respect those that do though..more power to them..from what I hear they wake an hour before the kids and family get up to get themesleves ready...I would rather cuddle with my hubby for that hour :)

i could care less. you in orange county? i can't imagine going through all that effort every day, morning and night. but my house is clean and i work full time with kids, so I am definitley doing the best i can.

I never wear lipstick. Still I am pretty sure you look perfect to others. Meh, maybe it is just me but I think the most stunning women are wearing no makeup and sweats.

I am a go with the flow type of wife/mom. I don't dress up unless nice family get together/date night. I rarely wear makeup because natural beauty is more important than pore clogging makeup. I do clean my house every other day if needed and stay organized, but a clean house is important to me so I'm not fretting to clean up at end of week or all weekend since I am the only one that does it. I don't get up a hour before my daughter either to get ready. I am not a morning person and don't take a hour to get ready anyway.

wish I was...I am put together because I work fulltime....need to shed some pounds..It has been hard. three kids, 2 big dogs, house, a husband....it is really hard. My house has the lived in look...clean but toys everywhere...Thank God for the cleaning ladies. I have succumbed to the no make-up on weekends and the hair in a pony.. if I am running errands in the a.m...My Mom on the other hand was the perfect SW. Hair, clothes..no weight issues...a clean house where you can eat off the floor...Guess I didn't take after her...Oh well....

I shower and get dressed before drop off.....maybe on a good day i remember mascara. My mornings are Hell. I have 3 kids. and putting a fire under their butts to get dressed, brush their teeth, brush hair, put on shoes (what is the deal w/ shoes?) and eat. OMG! it should take them 10 mins. and then eat breakfast. all easy peasy.

and my home is a mess. it's clean. Because i hire someone. Our contractor bailed when he was 90% done .
