I'm thinking of getting an iPad but want to know why/why not you like yours and what you use if for. I work full-time and use a blackberry torch that I plan to keep but think I want an ipad mainly for personal stuff - music, pics, etc. Any advice would be helpful.

What can I do next?

I would not get one.
If you must have a tablet PC get an android based tablet
Apple is very proprietary and does not allow certain forms of media on their devices like Flash player, I have a friend with an Ipad and all she does is complain about it. about how she HAS to use Itunes and she can't do anything with flash, some websites NEED flash player to work.

I don't miss any of the Microsoft crappola at all!

Hubby got one for Christmas and he loves it (so does our 2 y/o). He uses it for email, facebook, EBay (he buys & sells a lot), websurfing, Netflix, and to watch TV (we have an adaptor with Dish Network that lets us watch our DVR shows on it). Our DD loves to play games, do "drawings" on it, and watch her shows from the DVR. I've used it to websurf, play games, and also to create a few documents (you can buy apps for Microsoft Office-like software). We got the WiFi version because we both also have iPhones (with the ulimited data plans) and can access internet through that when we're not in a WiFi area. But, if you want to use it to access internet in places where there is not WiFi, you might want to fork over the extra ~$100 for the 3G + WiFi version. The data plans are $30 or $15 per month, depending on usage.

People feel very strongly about Anti-Mac or Pro-Mac... it really is a personal decision! :) I do get frustrated about some of the proprietary stuff (i.e. no Flash, and having to use iTunes), but the convenience and ease of using Mac products outweighs the negatives. Note: We do also have a laptop that we use for "heavy-duty" computer work--creating large documents, photo editing, etc.

I love our iPad, I was trying to talk my husband into getting us the new one with the camera, but he isn't, LOL!
My 4 year old daughter uses it more than me! There are such great free apps for her, she had learned a lot from it! It is great for Netflix also. I just use it for email and faceback, I play one game on there, when I can get it away from our daughter LOL!!!

As for me, I like iPad. It works great for me. Our company has just launched Children TV application for iPad. There are hundreds of safe sorted cartoons. You can enjoy videos in 10 languages and filter only the once of you interest. Filter by age category is also available. Check out the application here:

LOVE it love it love it.

But first of all, do you have a MAC or are familiar with it?
Or have you been using a PC all this time?

It is very useful.
But, you need to remember that this is not a "PC" nor a desk top 'computer.'
It is an iPad.
To do, practically everything and anything... but do not expect it to do major applications/word processing/or have 'microsoft' like applications.
That is what a computer is used for.
iPad, is used for all online activity, and games and apps, and photos and e-mail, and communication, and listening to music and etc.
BUT... again, it is not a "computer" like a desktop PC.
So don't expect it to behave that way.
People who are not happy with iPad, it is usually because, they think it is a computer, which it is not.
Say, if you want to do Word Documents or have an application like Adobe Illustrator etc.- you would NOT load that on an iPad. That would be for a computer that has TONS more Gigs on it etc.

You can put pics/photos on it, sure. But again, you also still need to back it up on your computer.
AND, if you already have a MAC at home, then you can effortlessly, use your desktop Mac AND your iPad, to share information and to update both etc. Effortlessly.

But, if you have a PC computer at home, then an iPad... then, you will not be able to use the PC and iPad... to interchange things on it etc.

Mac to Mac... is of course, ideal.

Having a MAC, is very very very, great.
I used to have a PC. HATE it.
You can put any application on a Mac.
And if you have an iPad... even better.

with an iPad, you cannot go wrong.

all the best,
Susan

LOVE love love my iPad. I use it for e-mail, facebook and web surfing. It does not support Flash applications however. My daughters were very upset by this because they can't use the Webkins, Build a Bear game sites or the Este Lauder website etc. Never realized how many sites use Flash until I got the IPad so I still need my computer sometimes. For example I was looking at paint and flooring and the interactive sites require Flash so I was out of luck using my iPad. I still highly recommend it though.

I have a Mac that is not up to the current operating system, so I use our pc laptop to sync my iPad, and add photos and music. No issue there. I'll do it on my Mac as soon as I get it up to speed.
The iPad was my gift last year, but all of us in the house use it. I've downloaded many free apps for the kids that are fun and/ or educational. I believe I am using the iPad more than my computer at the moment. The new OS has the option to send things to print, and I believe that is achieved with a bluetooth printer. There were apps for that as well.
It's great for catching up on tv shows, in hd too. Showing off photos is easy. Using the net does have the flash issue, but I believe since technology is changing that will also change. Some websites allow you to toggle in between a mobile version and the web version. It's nice to use at the library while the kids are involved.

I love mine, and I would recommend it, if you are thinking about it. It's expensive, but very well done, and sturdy. There is a lot of fun and function at your fingertips.
