Hi everyone...I live in the York, PA area and I am looking for infant playgroups and/or baby gyms. My son Owen is only two months old, but I'd like to find something fun for him in the next few months. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I don't know how far you are from Hanover, but the Library there has teh BEST storytime. You have to register for it, and new registration isn't open for a couple of months, but you can call them or look them up on the internet. It is Guthrie Memorial Library.

Also, if you go to meetup.com you will find a mommies group for mommies of York County. Meet ups has lots of great opportunities to join different groups.

Hi J.,

I belong to the same MomsClub group Stephanie C. responded about. It really is great. My oldest 2 are in school and now I have a 6 month old, Aiden. We have many babies (2 under 2 weeks old) and I heard that there were talks about a baby play group. I guess more for the moms right now to chat and then the babies can grow together and get to know each other. You should check it out. Good luck! :)

Dear J.,
Joining the local MOMS chapter would probably be your best bet. I joined the Central York MOMS group a few months ago, and it was probably the best $30 I've ever spent. Most weeks have 1-3 activities on the calendar. In our chapter, play groups meet twice a month on either Thursdays or Fridays, depending which works for you. Most of the "events" that are not hosted in a home are free, or only a few $$$. You didn't say which part of York you live in, and that would be the determining factor in which chapter you'd be in. The web address for the international organization is www.momsclub.org and you click on "finding a chapter near you". Hope this helps. Good luck, and God bless!

There are several moms groups in the area that you could join ... since a playgroup wouldn't really benefit your son as much as you at this very young age. I'd look into one of those, which also offer playgroups, moms night outs, etc.

J.,

I met a lot of wonderful moms through a baby massage class that was offered through the York Hospital. I believe the cost was $30 total for three Saturday sessions. Most of the moms had infants the same age as mine and we developed a play group after the class. We are still meeting and our little ones are all turning 1 year old.

My church (Church of the Open Door-off of Rt.74) has a Mom and Me group that meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from September through March. The times are 9:00-11:00am. Children are taken care of by wonderful helpers so the moms can have some time together in Bible study, prayer, and discussion groups. We only have 3 meetings left for this year, but you are welcome to join us. We also have occasional meetings in the spring and summer months to keep connected (park play dates, libraries, etc.)

One other option, I am taking my little girl to the Red Lion (Kaltreider/Benfer) Library for baby story time. They offer it on Thursdays at two different times. The first is 10:15 and the second is 11:15. The volunteers that run the program are great.

Hope this helps,
Jen
