I'm 5 Months Pregnant with Third Child and Concerned About Baby Moving Enough.

I have a 2yr old and a 1yr old. I'm 5mths pregnant with my third and think that I should be feeling more movement than I do. Is it possible that because I had my baby's so close together that this one isn't getting enough from me to grow well? Kind of concerned.

What can I do next?

That's normal. Each baby is different, even in the whomb. Some move more than others. As long as you're feeling SOME movement, it's all good. Congratulations!

If you are feeling movement throughout the day i wouldn't be too concerned. My last two children are 15 months apart and most of the baby's movements took place at night since that is the only time i was able to slow down enough to really feel the movements. It could just be that you are really active with your other children that you just aren't paying attention to your body and the movements are there but not noticeable.

I'd try not to worry yourself too much over the lack of movement just yet. The other ladies are right with the fact that you're a lot more mobile with this pregnancy now that you have two little guys to chase after. I'd make sure to express your concerns to your OB, just so that he or she knows your movement level is down compared to past pregnancies, but overall try your best not to be terribly concerned. The more you move around during the day the less you're going to feel the little swooshes and rolls of the baby in this stage. The closeness of your pregnancies shouldn't have any effect on nutrients etc that this baby receives so I wouldn't be concerned about that either. The female body is a wonderful thing, it can handle back to back pregnancies better than we think. The hardest toll on the body overall is on the muscles but with simple mommy to be excercises and relaxation you'll never know the difference! Congratulations on your third pregnancy!

I have four children and had the same concern with my last two, but i was told by my doctor that as long as you feel some movement that is good. My children were quite close together also. If you have had previous c-sections you might feel less also, and i was also told that with babies being close together your body doesnt get much time to go back and you will feel less that way too. And at 5 months there is still alot of room in there for the baby to move and you wont feel every movement. Your doctor will tell you when to start your kick counts. But if you are truly worried talk to your ob.

Hi C.,
Are you going to your monthly OB appt's? As far as your baby getting enough of what it needs- you needn't worry about that. As long as you are eating healthy and have no major health concerns for yourself (such as a chronic illness, disease etc) The baby will take what it needs to grow. Even if you have some issues with your own health- your doctor can can keep everything under control. Be sure to keep up with all your pre-natal vitamins and exams. Some babies are just more active in the womb than others. I have had 7 babies (all c-sect) some of them were 19 months apart, 2 years and 4 years apart. Some of them were extreemly powerful in the womb actually injuring my bladder and hurting my rib cage. Others were fairly gentle and quiet. A couple of them were 3 weeks early and furiously active. Some could have stayed a few more weeks inside and not bothered me or anyone else. The best assurance (besides prayer) is to go to your OB appts on time and ask a lot of questions. As for the nights out- are you looking for a sitter?? I don't know where you live, but if it's anywhere nearby I am sure we can arrange for something. Best wishes to you and congratulations on #3. J.

I wouldn't worry about it. I have an 11 month old, she's my 3rd and I thought I'd feel her alot more at that time too. Everything was fine tho. You'll feel the baby move soon enough, you'll see!

Hi, a good check is to make sure you are drinking enough water. Then also eat some chocolate or drink somethink with caffeine and see if the baby responds.

Hi C.,

I, too, have a 15 month old and currently 5 month pregnant!! I would not at all worry about the baby's movement - or lack there of. You probably stay pretty busy chasing after those two boy that you don't have time to focus on the baby's movement. Just mention it to your OB. I am sure everything is fine. You mentioned wanting to get together with other moms and/or start friendships. Since we have the kids' ages in common and right about the same in our pregnancies then maybe we can get together and let the kids play. I go to a playgroup every monday with one other mom, perhaps you can join us. What town do you live in? email me at ____@____.com if you are intersted. S.

If you are concerned I would definitely ask your ob. He or she would be able to tell you if things appear to be normal - they are the experts. I too am expecting my third child and this pregnancy is VERY different than my first two. So remember, there are differences in each! Maybe you don't notice as much movement because you're so active with your other two? Just a thought....

hope this eases your mind a little, but I dont think you have anything to worry about, every baby is diff, and my doc when i was prego always told me babies are just like adults, some days they are more tired then other days. And if your looking for friends i am ALWAYS looking for more female friends that are mothers as well. I have maybe one close female friend and all my other female friends are my sisters and my mother. So u can email me anytime if your lookin for a friend! I know how lonely it can get being pregnant too!!!

Wow...I should have read your post before I posted mine! It's the same as yours!! I don't know what to say....I just want to feel the movement already! I think it freaked me out when my doc said I should be feeling the movement...and I said I'm not really feeling that much....but the ultrasound was ok...I have to keep that in mind!
Good luck to you and I hope all is well!
