Ideas for What to Do with All These Apples?

We went apple-picking this past weekend and had loads of fun. I am now faced with the question - what can I do with all these apples?

They are mainly red delicious and macintosh.

Any ideas that aren't apple sauce or apple pies? My little guy is 3 years old, so candied apples are also out.

Thanks in advance!!!

Grate them up and make mini-muffins. You can add some squash or grated Zucchini to bump up the nutritional value.

Peel and slice them, put them in a sauce pan with cinnamon sugar and a pat of butter. Cook them slow until they are soft. Put them up on top of homemade pancakes (add cinnamon to the mix) with a dollop of whipped cream. BEST BREAKFAST EVER!

Core them, and set them up in a pie plate. Fill each apple with cinnamon sugar, maple syrup or honey and bake until the apples are soft. Serve up with ice cream.

You can slice, core and peel them--put them in plastic bags and freeze. Then anytime you want to make a batch of applesauce or an apple pie ect you got the apples all ready. You don't even need to thaw them for sauce. Just put them in a sauce pan on top of the stove and heat on low or simmer. As they melt you may need to add water, you can add sugar and cinnamon as they cook. Makes the yummmmmyest applesauce.

Red delicious apples are perfect for apple jelly. It will last for about a year if canned properly. It's yummy on sandwiches and toast, but adding a jar to a jar of spaghetti sauce makes a yummy and sweet sauce for meatball subs.

You could also make apple cake. If you don't can't eat it all, you can freeze the cake. Wrap it really, really well with saran wrap and it will last about three months in a freezer.

peel them, slice them, dust with cinnamon, and bake or microwave until fork tender - gives your home that apple pie smell and a nice warm snack without the calories of a pie. When my DD's were toddlers, I'd freeze the extras and they actually enjoyed the "apple popsicles" as a nice snack.

Apple crisps are an easy way to have a warm apple dessert without the labor of a pie - I use the recipe in the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook - about 5 cups peeled and sliced apples, cinnamon and sugar to taste, and a topping of 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger, and 1/4 cup butter - combine the dry ingredients and cut the butter in with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs- then add 1/4 cup coconut. Sprinkle over fruit filling, bake about 30 minutes at 375 degrees.

If you're a canner or want to try canning, apple butter is nice - you can find recipes online

You can never freeze too much apple sauce! Lol. My mother and grandma and I used to buy 30 lbs or more of apples and take a weekend and freeze enough apple sauce, pies etc for an entire year. It was a lot of fun and bonding time too.

You can make apple muffins for breakfast
Apple slices with sprinkled cinnamon on them, makes them so good.
Make a Lime Jello with cut up apples and celery in it.

I just made an Apple Roll with Caramelized sauce on it. Soo yummy!

There are many things you can do with apples. If nothing else make a bunch of treats and hand them out to your friends and family or even neighbors. Or just give them the apples for them to bake and enjoy.

Sauté apples and onions for a savory side dish at dinner.

Bake a cored apple or two in the microwave for desert. Add a pat of butter and sweetener in the center for extra yumminess.

Use bowls of apples as decoration in the house.

Add applesauce to cake mixes to cut down the fat.

We love "cooked or stewed". Peel, remove core, cut into quarters or sixths if really large apples. Place in pan add cold water to about 2/3 depth of apples, add cup of sugar (more or less to taste) to about quart of apples, (if you don't want so sweet, can use sugar twin or sweetner for part of the sugar), bring to boil, then simmer / cook until tender, probably about 20 min, some cook faster than others, so need to check during process. Put into jars, in refrigerator, and they keep well for several days (only if you don't eat them)...
You can adjust the amount of sugar by how tart the apples. I do not always measure, more "guess/b'gosh".
Sometimes I add about 1/4 cup (more or less) of red hots while cooking for great red color and cinnamon flavor. Great to eat as side dish or with cottage cheese.
-----
Fried apples are good too, wash, core, slice thinly, fry in skillet til tender with some butter, add sugar and cinnamon. Serve hot or warm.

we are totally addicted to stuffed pork chops...we add diced apple to the stuffing and even use apple juice or apple cider in place of the liquid for the stuffing. To us this is an incredible combination = )

That's easy...Send them to me. :) Anyhow here's what I do with apples:
1. Put sliced apples and sliced onions on a flank steak/london broil. Season with a little salt and black pepper or onion soup mix. Wrap in tin foil and bake until done.
2. Slice apples into a microwavable bowl. Add brown sugar and cinnamon if you like. Microwave for 2 min. until soft. Sprinkle nuts and wheat germ on top. Top with fat-free/low fat whipped topping or the real stuff. Sit down and enjoy.
3. Make stuffed apple dumplings.
4. Make apple pie.
5. Add to your favorite coffie cake recipe.
6. Grilled apple sandwiches with honey.
7. Make a Waldorf salad.
8. Add to a green salad with nuts.
9. East raw stuffed with peanutbutter and cinnamon.

I cook peeled apple wedges in a skillet with Kielbasa. The salty smokey pork goes great with the softened sweet apples. Sometimes I cube them and add in the skillet with the sliced kielbasa and a drained jar of sauerkraut. It makes a big hearty meal.

I think the best thing to do with those particular varieties is applesauce. Next year, try to avoid those two, especially red delicious. Macintosh has a nice taste but is not really crunchy at all. Does your son like to eat them just plain and cut up? If you refrigerate them they are fine for several weeks. Honeycrisps and Fuji come into season around the mid to end of September and they are the best! Macoun and Cortland are in season now and great for both cooking and eating out of hand.

My local Whole Foods had some baked stuffed apples the other day that were fantastic! They were stuffed with a sugar/cinnamon coated pecan nut mix with cranberries. They hollow out the apple and dice the inside of the apple up with the pecan nut mix, put the tops back on then put in a covered dish in the oven at 350 for about 40 minutes. I went back to get more and they were all gone:(
