Ideas for Our 5Th Anniversary

I've done "coupons" before for things like making him a batch of cookies upon request, or letting him have a poker party and playing bar maid, or agreeing to watch a football game with him without complaint and allow him to try to teach me why he loves such a boring sport.

When we had our son, we didn't have alot of money. I decided to pack a pinic (mostly pasta and cup cakes). I had the food already in the car and I blind folded him and drove him to the park next to the lake. I made him a little card on the computer. It was fun and didn't cost anything but the gas.

Money was tight for us too this year for our 5th. I ended up making a card for my DH (I digital scrapbook) with a list of my 5 favorite memories about us. He really liked it!

A 5th anniversary is wood, so for ours, I made something. We went to San Fransico for our honeymoon and my husband picked up some driftwood. I made a shadow box with the wood and a note that said, "May our Love never Drift apart." I don't know if that helps, but he really liked it!

Congrats! We just celebrated our fifth last week. FYI, if you are into the little anniversary themes, the fifth is the 'wood' anniversary, so I though tht eidea of planting a little tree together is nice, or even a small shrub which may be less expensive. My husband and I also try to buy things that are for us or the house rather than for each other, this year we did a patio set which actually the whole family can use. Makes you feel less guilty about spending a little money on something if it is practical! Good luck.

My husband and I just celebrated our 10th anniversary and money is tight for us as well. We decided to make life lists of things that we wanted to accomplish before we pass. We made our list of 20 things each and presented them to eachother. It was fun and interesting to see what we had in common as well as different. wait until the children go to bed and wrap yourself up as his gift! I did this for my hubby and HE WAS SO EXCITED! If you have tide laundry soap put a lottle on yourself and light a black light it glows in the dark!!! It's really cool and clean!

We just celebrated our 5th anniversary too. We got a sitter and went to Famous Daves. It was great to finally be able to go out to eat and actually be able to eat our food while it was hot! We don't usually exchange gifts for our anniversary. If we do it's something little. He usually gets me flowers and something that I've mentioned lately like a movie I want to see or the cheesecake I love but won't buy for myself because I know I'll eat it all before he gets home from work! As for him, he's a pain - this year I got him new earrings. I know it sounds dumb but he buys his at Hot Topic and he hasn't gotten new ones in a year so I got him funky silver hoops with green spikes. He loved them, so it was a good gift. Anything to get rid of the spikey ball closure that pokes holes in his fingers!

I'm sure that no matter what you do or what you get, he'll love it and you'll have a great time.

Why not make his favorite meal, play his favorite music during it and maybe see if a friend or relative would babysit. Who wouldn't want a nice quiet dinner for two?

Only if you are crafty. I made my husband a scrapbook. I take a lot of photos and save stuff from different dates. You could write little things and poems. It is something that he will have forever and my husband loved it.

There have been some great ideas posted already... For me & my husband's 5th, I wrote down "101 Things I Love About You," all on different small pieces of paper. I folded them up, and then put them in a little jar that I decorated. I told him that he could open as many as he wanted, whenever he wanted (I didn't limit it to 1 a day or anything like that). He has had continual enjoyment from reading those, even though that was 2 years ago already. It was a fun way for him to feel loved and respected, I had to use my creativity to think of all the different ways, and it was free! :)

If you have a computer and CD's, you could always download some of his favorite songs and burn them to a CD for his car. All his favorite songs, or romantic theme.

Just a thought, and it actually cuts the costs down later, we don't exchange gifts for Anniversaries. We discuss things we want as a couple, and decide together what we want to buy. Perhaps something for the house (shed, or entertainment system), or something that we will both enjoy seperately but we share(like an Ipod), or could be something monumental. We planted 3 maple trees once for an anniversary. That's fun because we will always look at those trees and remember exactly why we have them.

Last year for my husband's birthday I made him a page-a-day calendar with all the reasons I love him. It was fun to have to think of 365 separate things - a little bit hard too! He loves the calendar because everyday there is something that makes him feel good about himself. We usually read it together in the morning and then have a little joke or story that relates to whatever made me think of that one. It has been a good reminder for me too about all the good things about him, so on those days when I wish he'd take out the trash more often I don't get so frustrated! :-)
