I need help figuring out what to get daycare teachers for Christmas. There are 3 wonderful ladies who watch and care for my son 40 hours a week. I wanted to get something special, not just cookies or hand lotion, etc. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I like to give them "ornaments". They can be simple or they can be fancy from dept store. But I've always done this, since my daugther was in preschool. The teachers seem to love them and they can think of your child every year when they place it on the tree. If you've already come up with something, then maybe next year this would be a good idea. I like to shop for the "really nice" ornaments right after Christmas. You can get really good deals and you're set for the next year. I think I bought like 20 ornaments, so I've had plenty for the teachers, friends and anyone else you would like. My friends and I started doing this about 10+ years ago. Since we all had families and we were a group of about ten girls. It was nice to give a special "ornament" to each friend's family. Good Luck:)

Gift certificates for lunch/dinner, or just about anywhere really would be good. If they are like the ladies at my daughter's daycare, scrubs and crocs are the usual attire. Maybe some scrubs(if you can guess sizes or get a gift receipt) or a gift certificate to a place that sells scrubs and crocs might be good. Are their ears pierced? Sterling silver earrings are pretty cheap right now(Kohl's has a great selection). They also have lots of pins and other jewelry as well as just gift ideas that you might not think about. I go through this same problem every year, too. I usually try to somehow work restaurant questions into a conversation and find out where they like to go and get a g.c. to that place.

Speaking as a teacher my absolute favorite thing to receive is giftcards. As a mom, it seems somewhat impersonnal to me (thanks to my grandmother's raising of me), but as the recipient teacher I absolutely love them. I don't care if it is a $50 AMEX GC or a $5 Starbucks GC, I am always appreciative of being able to treat myself (without guilt), when I wouldn't otherwise. When my daughter has transitioned from one class to another or for special occassions I have gotten a $25 GC (usually to Barnes and Noble or somewhere only they would use it-not Target or Walmart) and then a little something else more personal-simple jewelry, a willow tree angel, etc. Have fun shopping!

it depends on how much you want to spend...it could be a gift card, a scarf, a candle, some towels (for the kitchen and gloves, etc they are not expensive) a nice pen/pencil, etc You have to see what they like

I don't know what your budget is for this but I make name doileys for people and I consider them very special gifts and get such a responce form them. I make them for $5 per letter but take off one letter from each one if you order more than one at a time. I can send you a picture of one if you are interested. My web site is not ready yet or I could send you to it. Just let me know if you are interested in this.

Sincerely,

I have given pictures of my son to them & they seemed so grateful. Last year, I gave them wallet sized prints, but in a frame. He started there when he was 6 weeks old and to one of his teachers, it was "her" baby. She had him in her classroom from the time he started until he was a year & a half. He had to leave the daycare last March due to my job shutting down, but we still go & visit occasionally.

I once crocheted a blanket in a cow pattern for my son's daycare teacher (the one I mentioned above) and she was SO grateful. Cows are her favorite & even her daycare classroom was decked out in cow motif. She gave me a thank you card so full of thanks, you could just tell by reading it how much she felt appreciated by the gesture.

But something "from" your child would be cute. The teachers are always sending home something personalized for the parents, why not reciprocate?

Hi,

I don't know if you got my other response before I edited it, but I didn't read your request really well, somehow I just saw teachers, gifts and off I went.....haha
Anyways, I see that you were talking about 3 teachers that take care of your son and you were thinking of something a little more special...well, I wanted to give the teachers of my twins, (3 of them, 2 teachers and 1 speech therepist) something really special, at the end of the year and I got them a plant. I beautiful arragement of three indoor plants within one beautiful pot. I was $25.00 each and I got them at Publix, I though plants can last for a long time and I thought everytime they look at it, they'll remember the twins.Something a little more lasting over time and everybody likes plants. They can make a room light up!
You can even be more creative and use one of those sticks where the card is placed and put a picture of your son there.

Just a thought!
