Do you have a Wii or other game system and RockBand or Guitar Hero? You can have a Rock and Roll Birthday!

Survivor themed b-day party at a local park.

Buffs can be 25-cent bandanas picked up from Hobby Lobby to identify the different tribes (I only used 2 different colors).

Set up a scavenger hunt, gross food challenge, races of all sorts and "tribal council" is actually around a fire pit or grill roasting hot dogs.

You can make your invitations. I made my daughter's invites by using recycled cardstock with a scrap of leopard print fabric glued on top, then over than I glued the invitation wording that I printed on off-white paper and burned the edges with a lighter. We even made the matching envelopes and stamped a green palm tree on the outside to give it some character.

It was cheap but actually one of my daughter's favorite parties.

Scavenger hunt at a park

You could also do a photo scavenger hunt with two teams and two adults driving - they get points not only for finding the items, but also for how creative they get with interpreting the list

Swimming at a beach

Get a couple rockets and go to a field and shoot them off - have the boys try to predict how far they'll go or who can shoot the rockets the furthest

Do a community service project party - I would call the United Way to see if there's anything out there

Good luck!

I like the scavenger hunt idea, which can even be done in your yard. You could do "Spy" themed invitations. You could write the invitation in code with the answer on the back or use clues to determine who the party is for, etc. You can make the map to your house with clues.

http://www.thebestbirthday.com/spy-party/spy-party.php has some fun ideas for games/activities. I'm sure there are tons more if you google spy party or secret agent party. Just keep them busy.
Have fun!

The best b-day party for 10 y/o boys is a back yard tent slumber party. Have the boys bring tents, you and your spouse have a tent, set up like you are camping, right down to smores. Great fun and they all can go home by 10:00 am the next morn.

Well for party favors, gift bags, etc & dinnerware, Dollar Tree is great for that. As far as if your son wants a type of 'theme', ask him what he'd like & see what you can do. Hobby Lobby, Party City, etc has neat things for theme parties. You can also go online to Oriental Trading Company for other inexpensive party ideas & favors too. I order from them & have been completely satisfied w/overal quality, price & choices avail. Hope this helps!

Detective party!

Scavenger hunt, clues...they have to find things around the neighborhood & solve a mystery. You can make it simple or real complicated....up to you and the kids you are inviting!

The invitations, thank you notes, food, etc...would be pretty easy to create yourself and there are lots of detective, mystery ideas out there on the internet.
