Idea for Theme Constume for Family of 4 - Fair Lawn,NJ

We are having a costume competition in our community and I would really love to win this time. We are a family of two parents and two boys, a 2 year old and an 8 month old. I am looking for a great theme costume for us. I can sew anything so any unique or intereting idea will be appreciated.

Thanks!

How about a family breakfast? Bacon, Eggs, toast, juice. I don't sew, but if you do you could easily make these out of felt from the craft store. Somone can carry a sign - "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" or something clever . . The family that eats together . . . or dines together . . . I don't know, but someone will come up with something. Or maybe a recycle/reuse theme? Bottle, can, newspaper, recycle trash can? good luck!

I and my three children teamed up one year with neighbors and went as crayons and one in a box. We used bright solids in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and a black crayon in a teal box. I used styrofoam cones and disks and covered them in the same material for the pointy top. I love the picture of us all together - it's one of the best.

Another year we went as playing cards - the face cards. One year we did dental things - tooth brush, tooth paste tube, box of floss, and a smile. That one was a little harder to make!

Good luck!

When my kids were young I made them into different color M&Ms. Brown, red, green, and orange. No pattern needed just cut 4 large circles out of cheap cotton fabric, sew, stuff lightly, paint a M on the front and back, and then add straps to go over the shoulders and ties for each side. Very cute.

I don't know if this will work for you (my boys are a little bit older), but we're going as Jedi's from Star Wars and I'll be Princess Leia. If you search for "easy Jedi costume" there is a very easy pattern that you can use. Also, I bought the fabric at Wal-Mart in the dollar bin, so it's cost effective too.

How about 3 blind mice? Your husband can be the clock.

Or Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, elf, and a teddy bear / reindeer / present / jack-in-the box or other toy.

Mix any of the Superheroes

The Incredibiles (Disney)

Pirates

Sesame Street (they have adult sizes now too)

check out Partycity.com for themes too

simple, but goofy: make hats or shirts that say "ceilings are #1! Go ceilings!" and carry those foam fingers you see at sporting events...

you'd be ceiling fans!
