I Need Faster Relief for Dry Cracked Lips!

My top lip is so insanely chapped that it's red and cracked and my bottom lip has a huge cold sore on it. I woke up with it yesterday. I'm putting abreva on the cold sore and carmex on my lips but it doesn't seem to be helping much. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Lansinoh ointment for breastfeeding mothers. Yes, it's nipple ointment, but it works on all sorts of minor skin ailments. Around my house we use it for anything chapped, cracked, minor scrapes, cuts, rashes, etc. The stuff is amazing! I had cracked lips yesterday, bleeding - put some lansinoh on and today they are completely healed.

Aquaphor, for sure - and for your cold sore take an ant-acid and dip in water and place on the cold sore, it will soak up the acid and heal quicker :)

Personally, I stay away from any petroleum products on my lips (Vaseline) Burts bees is awesome, also Sun Shades lip balm. Drinking plenty of water and also B vitamin deficiency (not sure which one) can cause your lips to crack. so make sure that you are getting a good multivitamin!

My all time favorite is plain ole chapstick in the black tube.

If I run into a problem, I will use neosporin.

You find chapstick in all my pockets, purse, car, at least 1 in every room.

Try the vaseline lip treatment. Being in Colorado chapped lips are a way of life and I have Blistex Silk and Shine with me at all times.....one or two in my purse, one on my nightstand. Wouldn't make it through the day without them!

Carmex is not good for you. It has Camphor in it iwhich can actually be addictive!

Aveeno chap stick is wonderful. It is the only kind that does not make my lips peel and doesn't have wax in it.

Straight up Vaseline works wonders on all dry body parts! I've never tried Aquaphor lip treatment, but the regular stuff is really nice so I'm sure it's great!

I would continue the abreva but you might want to switch to a burts bees lip treatment instead. Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

Try a little cortisone cream. Just a tad.

Coconut oil, Olive oil, cocoa butter, shea butter and/or Burt's Bees lip balm (my personal favorite). I just like to keep it natural with the products I use on my skin.

Use the coconut oil, olive oil at night while the others can be used during the day or at night and drink more water you may be dehydrated too.

Olive oil or aloe vera (as absurd as it sounds)

VASELINE!! If anything is dry on my I slather it on and keep reapplying when necessary and LOVE it. Super cheap too. BONUS! Plus tons of water. The more I drink, the softer my lips are!

I've heard the pure coconut oil does wonders.. not the kind you buy just for skin, but the one that is also used for cooking.. again, get the pure stuff..

I have lived with chapped lips, being a chronic lip licker, especially when I am nervous. I have found a number of solutions.
1. Chapstick, the black tube, is my go to most of the time
2. I augment with an evening balm, like R. balm, Aquaphor, aloe vera oil, or coconut oil, and apply that throughout the evening
2. I have gotten into using sheer lip glosses - my favorites have and will always be Clinique glosses, since they are sheer and match my dark shade beautifully without making me look like a wanna be teenager. This has helped a ton, my lips stay moist even after the gloss has worn off.
4. I recently discovered Too Faced Lip Primer. I bought for the few times I wear read lipstick and found that it is a great moisturizer to use under a gloss or chapstick or whatever. This stuff really works, and it is colorless and tasteless
5. For my son, I use Burt's Bees All Better Balm. I swear, within a day his chapped lips are nice a soft again. A miracle!

And finally, no matter what I use I get myself in the habit of habit a small pot of lip stuff wherever I go. So, I have one in my desk, at least two in the car, probably at this point I have a chapstick in every purse, one in my "mess" drawer in the kitchen, and several items in the bathroom, so I am never without.

The neutragena hand lotion does wonders on my lips. And by hand lotion, I mean that little tube of the cream.
