I Need a Good OB/GYN -- Can You Help?
Does anyone have any recommendations or warnings about OB/GYNs in Abington? My insurance requires me to use one of the doctors at 1245 Highland (Abington Hospital), which has groups like the Women Care Ob/Gyn group, Abington Primary Women's Healthcare group, or Abington OB/GYN Associates.
But, ANY recommendation or warning is greatly appreciated.
So What Happened?™
Thanks for the great recommendations and referrals for an OB-GYN. Sounds like I have nothing to fear using the group my insurance requires.

I can not give specific advice or warnigs about ob/gyns from Abington but I do have some fyi. I am 8 1/2 months pregnant and my previous ob/gyn no longer delivers, Jeanes Hosp. I had asked her for a recommendation and she recommended I go out to Langhorne. She said that Abington was a great hospital BUT because all the hospitals in the NE area are no longer delivering everyone is heading to Abington. She said their delivery rate has jumped from about 180 to about 400 deliveries A MONTH!! So I am not trying to scare just letting you know that that is one of the hospitals that is very busy with deliveries.

I am not with an OB/GYN - used to be before I knew that I could actually be treated differently... I am with Barabara D'Amato - ValleyBirth Midwifery. But, I just switched health insurance carriers and I had two experiences at Abington (a first trimester screen and my 21 week sonogram)... Both times were the worst experiences I have ever had. This is my third baby (my other babes are 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 - so, no, you have not lost your mind) - and I regret that I had to waste my time going to that awful hospital.
I had to go to the Levy building for the ultrasounds - and when you walk in, they don't even look up... they just say "name." It was disgusting. I looked around the waiting room and wanted to scream out to all of these pregnant women - "it doesn't have to be like this!"
It is a purely business and insurance driven hospital. The doctors who deliver there work by the clock - you should find out what the c-section rate is there - it is like a busy restaurant that has to turn tables.
Treat yourself to better hands - find out what midwives are covered - my first baby was born at Doylestown hospital with Doylestown midwifery - a beautiful alternative... I switched because after realizing that giving birth was not a medical event for me, I decided to go to Barbara (who I don't need to wait for a "call back" -she and the other midwife, Malecia, is always there to talk to - and they actually know everyone who walks through their door!) - and birthed my second baby at home.
So, it all depends on where you feel the most comfortable, how you would like to be recognized and treated, and how you would like your and your future baby's journey to take place... and, of course, how accepting your insurance carrier is.
There is a saying, "A worm perfectly content in horseradish does not know about the juicey apple..."
Good luck with your decision!

they also have another building/practice in horsham, about 4 miles away. that office is nice and has the ultrasound in it.
you'll be in great hands, don't worry.

I use Dr. Ron Hoffman in that building. He is a solo practioner and really listens and cares, especially good with older moms and high risks. He goes by Greenbrier OB

Hi K.,
I go to Abington OB/GYN Associates. I've left and came back. Dr. Tannenbaum delivered my first son by c-section 2 years ago. He did a great job. I've also seen him in the office for my current pregnancy. I prefer Dr. Fonslick for my annuals and what not, because I like to talk to a woman about womanly issues. Dr. Roberts is delivering my second son this March 27th...she seems nice although I have not had much contact with her. I think it depends on your personality which doc you will click with.
Good luck! About being crazy to have a second...I'm very nervous to bring another one home because my son just turned two and is still very dependent. Your child will be closer to three and I've heard it get easier when the first child is older. You’re not crazy, but there are some days you will feel like being committed just to get some peace!!!

Hi K., I have first hand information in the OBGYN arena. I was the residency training administrator at Pa. Hospital for 20 plus years. We trained only the highet caliber of residency candidates. Joseph Murphy, M.D. is one of our graduates and practices out of abington. He is the father of three and married to a labor and delivery nurse. Great guy, good luck.

I have been with Women Care for the past 6 years. They have seen me through problems conceiving, the birth of my 4 year old, 4 miscarriages and recently the birth of my 6 month old. Both were delivered by c-section. I have been very comfortable with them. I feel they have given great care and have been really understanding through all the circumstances. I especially like Dr Sandra Rappe. She has a really comforting bedside manner and is easy to talk to about issues. She never makes you feel like you are asking to many questions. She would be the first Dr I would have an appointment with. During pregnancy they make you see all the doctors in womencare so you are familiar with them, but Dr Rappe is my favorite. That's my experience with women care. It is true they do hundreds of deliveries a month, but at least I know they have seen a lot of different births and have the expertise and experience to deal with the situation. Good luck with your decision.
