I Am Very Embarrassed to Ask This but Need to Know.

So this is the thing, I went to my doc. last week for my check up ( I am almost 9 months pregnant) and I have hemorrhoids (pretty damn embarrassing!) She told me to use Preparation H and Tucks wipes, which I am using but see no real improvement. I am also eating more fiber and drinking more water, which should help, I hope!
Anyways, my question is this, have you got hemorrhoids during your pregnancy and have they gone away after you deliver the baby? My doc. said they are pretty normal to get during pregnancy because of the pressure from the baby , but are they going to go away for good after the baby is born? Did you get them and then they just went away forever? Please tell me this is possible. I would hate to have surgery since I read it is VERY painful. I never suffered from this and it feels awful :(

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

OMG Thank you so much for all the answers. I really didn't think this was such a common problem in pregnancy. I am happy though to know that with treatment they might get a little better. It is already really hard to be this far a long in my pregnancy with all this weight, but you know what, it is all worth it and hopefully after my little boy is born I would go back to "normal" or at least to and "almost normal self" :)
God bless you all!

I have never had a problem with mine. If I get constipated there might be a tiny bit of bleeding. I think they were caused because they tell you to push like you are having a bm--not!!!
But my dad has a bad case. His doctor put bands around them and they haven't bothered him since.

Had them after one baby...can't remember which one, and they went away after healing post-delivery. You'll be fine!

I developed them suddenly, and quite bad, immediately after I delivered, both times by c-section. I had terrible pain from them. If you plan a c-section, take Prep H & Tucks to the hospital with you, as it took way too long for the request to get them cleared thru the doc while I stayed in the hospital for 3 days. The Prep H & Tucks gradually improved them, and then went away, except when I get a bad bout of constipation. Good luck!

I saw this on Dr. Oz...

Let me try to explain...

The lining of the colon is soft like the inside of your cheek; fragile skin/tissue.
Pressure and/or rock-type stools tears the lining of the colon near the anus.
The tears of skin on the INSIDE come to the OUTSIDE, otherwise known as a prolapse.
The veins/intestinal skin come through the anus and become strangled because of the closing of the anus.
The lack of blood flow is killing the tissue by not allowing blood to profuse to it.
You feel pain/itching because the tissue is being strangled.

SO, with that being said, the tissue can go BACK inside your colon. Your anus will appear normal, but the hemorrhoids are inside your colon. What YOU need to do after having the baby is: drink plenty of water ALWAYS (to prevent flair ups), eat your veggies or find a way to incorporate a good amount of fiber in your diet, and do not sit on the toilet longer than 10 minutes. Sitting on the toilet puts pressure on your colon, causing flair ups (which is when you start to see hemorrhoids on the outside of your anus).
Oh, and don't "hold it" if you have to go. That also puts pressure on the hemorrhoids.

Just to clarify, your butt can go back to looking normal. I've never had a haemorrhoid, but I've heard if they aren't flaring up, people live with them "inside" and have no issues.

One more thing...if they cause bleeding:
If the blood is bright red (like fresh blood), that is probably just the hemmeroid being aggravated.
If you start poo'ing and the blood is DARK, that means it's up high enough in the colon to be digested and DARK BLOOD is something that needs medical attention.

:) That's all the talk of anuses and poo I can stand. I'm out!

I didn't have them during my pregnancy but I did have them after my son was born. Tucks pads were a lifesaver!! ( I even considered using an ice pack at one point), Prep H cooliong gel worked better than the cream. For me the cold helped more than anything, I even put the Tucks in the refrigerator, lol! I also took stool softener after so that helped too. I still will have a problem if I get constipated but it's not as bad as it was right after delivery.

I had them with both of my pregnancies. They progressively got worse with baby #2 and I had to have surgery the day after delivery. Let me tell you, the surgery was literally the best decision I ever made (I had thrombosed hemorrhoids and they were very painful!). Instant relief after surgery and have never had another hemorrhoid in my life again. Amen! Hemorrhoids very often do go away after delivery but sometimes they don't. Good luck to you...it will be over soon!

Mine did, don't know if that is normal though. Got them all 3 times and went away after each birth...

baby is 3 months and mine are finally to the point where i at least don't holler and scream anymore. The only thing i didn't try was the surgery. I cringe at your pain....My midwife didn't make me push much with this baby, trying to help my problem this time, but even that didn't help. You either get them or you don't. I H. the best for you!
