Our family is looking to buy a car this year and I have narrowed down a few choices. I'm looking for anyone who has a Toyota Highlander Hybrid or an Escape Hybid. If you own one of have driven one what are your honest opinions about it? Thanks for your time.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the responses. They are very helpful. We will start test driving cars when my husband gets home for R&R.

Hi S.

i'm S. I think I can help you on the Hybrid info. Do I have one no i actually sell them. If money is not an issue then go with the Highlander, they are larger than the escape and have nice safety and family features. Escape has a 4 and 5 star crash rating, highlander is not tested.right now the escape has a rebate of $3,00.00 or 0.0%@ 60 months with ford credit or take the 3000.00 rebate and go through your own bank. the escapes are about $5,000.00 less than the highlander.

If you need additional ,NO pressure and NO I won't try to sell you information you can call me anytime at my store (I currently am no longer selling cars for the time being)Just tell me who you are if you call.

also the battery replacement is standard like a reg. vehicle battery except on the large power battery which has a 10 year warranty. and are not prone to breaking down that (we) at our large dealership have noticed in our service department.

Don't do it! My fiancee and his brother own a towing company and these cars are nothing but problems. Yea, they are great on gas, etc. But the simplest little problem can cause the car to shut down. They have run into circumstances where something on the car will break (including the glass)and the car will not turn on or go into neutral. Therefore they end up having to DRAG the car onto the truck. When this happens you risk ruining the transmission, drive shaft, parking brake, etc. And because it is the way the car is designed if something like this happens then you are responsible for the damages.

S.,

When you look into the Hybrids, the mileage isn't a whole lot better on some of them, but ask the dealership how much the battery costs if something happens to it. I work for a dealership and have been told that the batteries last about 3 years, and then you have to buy another battery which cost around $5,000 to $6,000. I know crazy price for a battery, that is why a lot of dealerships do not keep a lot of them on their lot.

I have also heard that there are tax deductions on the hybrids, so that sounds good. I just suggest trying to pry information out of the salesman or look at the car specs on the makers website (Ford, Toyota)

Good luck

I am in the market for a similar car. I have test driven the highlander, escape ect. I did extensive research on all of the cars and the hybrids seem to have a lot of mechanical problems. I work for a car dealership in Fuquay and we have a very nice alternative to the highlander and escape. Suzuki XL7, its less expensive, more reliable, has some great standard features. It does not come in a Hybrid but you are going to save a bundle on the car itself and maintenance costs. Its a fantastic car and I am actually thinking about buying it over the highlander or the escape.

We are actually having a big sale this weekend! If you want to stop by we're at 2900 N. Main Street Fuquay Varina NC 27526 just ask for Alexandra. We are closed on Sunday and if you will be stopping by just let me know around when so that I can be free.
