My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a year now, and the doctor ordered an HSG. I had the procedure done today and she found that one of my fallopian tubes is blocked. She didn't want to say too much before she gets the report from the radiologist...I'm scared, frustrated and confused! She said that it is possible to get pregnant with just one functioning tube, but I need to hear from other women that have been through this. Is it possible? Have any of you had these same issues?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The HSG must have done something for us ~ I am now 12 weeks pregnant!!!!! :) We got pregnant the cycle after my HSG, right before I was supposed to start taking fertility drugs...Thank you for all your kind words and support. They really helped get me through this!

Hello. I actually lost one of my fallopian tubes due to an ectopic pregnancy. So... with only one tube...I now have a son that is 14 months old. Have patience. I know it's easy to say that, but it is still possible to have a baby with one tube. I wish you good luck and keep positive. Don't get too stressed out. It will all work out.

Yes it is possible. A little over 5 years ago I had the same test and the same questions. I did not take any drugs and I have a 4 yr old daughter :)

Hi A.
I don't have first hand experience but have a good friend who had an ovarian syst and had to have one of her ovaries and fallopian tubes completely removed. She is now the proud Mommy of two beautiful children. I just wanted to say something encouraging to you. I know the circumstances are slightly different but it is possible to get pregnant even when the odds seem stacked against you.

Don't give up! A friend of mine had a tubal pregnancy that the doctors didn't catch in time and as a result it burst. She obviously lost that fallopian tube, leaving just her left to work with. Shortly after that she conceived her now 11-month-old and she's pregnant again right now, about 21 weeks along! So yes, it's possible. :)

My first pregnancy was a tubal pregnancy. When the tube ruptured, that tube was removed. However, my doctor told us to wait 3 months the try to get pregnant. We got pregnant 2 times after that. So, it is possible to get pregnant with just one tube.

A., I have had a HSG, and while both my tubes were open, I ended up still having surgery to remove both my right ovary and tube (which was pointing the opposite direction of the ovary). If was AFTER that, when I conceived my son. We had tried for 5 years with no intervention to have him. When he was 14 months old, I conceived again, though I miscarried 8 weeks later. So that's twice on one side. It is very possible for you to conceive naturally with one tube. Don't give up hope. :)

Theres a procedure you can get done where die is put through and it unblock them everyone I talked to that got that done got pregnant right away. Check into that. My friend has only one from a surgery she had a baby in her other one and had to get it removed. She now has one and they been tring forever. I think its harder to get pregnant on one not saying you can't just think its harder. I'm sorry I hope everything goes well for you. i will keep you iin our prayers.

As you have heard already, you certainly can get pregnant with only one tube. My mother had a ruptured tube from a tubal pregnancy and had FIVE children after that, including me! Even more amazing to me, a friend of mine had a tubal pregnancy that ruptured and I was so sad to leard that in her teenage years she had had her ovary removed - on the OPPOSITE SIDE. Yet she has gotten pregnant after that!! The tubes are not directly connected to the ovaries, so the egg can travel to the one on the other side. God has made us in an amazing way!
I hope the blockage can be cleared, and even if it cannot, I hope you have a baby very soon.

My sister-in-law only has one tube functioning and has gotten preggo three times! I had a co-worker with the same issue and since has had two children as well. There is hope out there, think positive! Another thing, my sister in law was a little on the heavier side and lost 20 pounds and she got pregnant right after that. I'm not sure if that had to do anything with it. Eat healthy, exercise, and think positive. :)

Good Luck!

I didn't have the same thing, but I did get pregnant (twice) with only one ovary, so it is possible. I did have to use fertility meds for both pregnancies, but I didn't have to go any farther than that. Don't lose heart! Good luck!

My cousin had one ovary and a tube removed and has a beautiful littl girl. I know a girl that didn't have either tube and somehow was able to have a little boy, naturally and without invitro.

Hi A.,

I am actually a result of my mothers fallopian tubes being blocked.

After I was born my parents attempted to have another child. After years of trying, they sought help. Eventually they found my mothers tubes were blocked. One was completely, the other something like 80%. The doctor told her the fact she had one child was quite something. But obviously, it can happen. Her tubes were blocked by scar tissue. She apparently had a childhood illness of some sort that caused the scar tissue. They cleared it out and she became pregnant within 2 months.

Don't worry yet until you know what the blockage actually is. In addition, hopefully the blockage could be cleared.

Good luck!
