I am looking for some ideas on how to tell my 5 year old daughter we are going to Disney World. (I want to tell her ahead of time, not the day we are leaving.) Any ideas?

What can I do next?

We wrapped the DVD that you can request that shows different things you can do there; we put it in the DVD player and waited to see their faces.

When we took my stepsons 10 years ago, it was just a few weeks after Christmas, so we told them at Christmas...we had them open their presents, then the last thing was a letter from us telling them they were going to Disney World...they were in K and 2nd grade at the time, so the older one was able to read it out loud to the younger one.

We are going in 26 weeks. The middle of April. Anyhow I made a Disney countdown. I would go to the library and take out a book on visiting Disney. Show her the rides and activites to get her excited.
My favorite hands down is Mickey Mouse and Goofy.

Mom, have you seen the new TV commercials for Disney, they just started airring here on the west coast for Disneyland/ World. In commercial a family is having dinner together and they order a pizza,(on the indside, top lid of pizza box a parent has written Disney World??? ) the pixxa box is put on the family dinner table to have dinner, kids open it to have dinner go wild when they read the pizza box lid inside. It is a very clever commercial I thing. You could do the same thing but instead put a picture of
Disney-World, w/ Mickey and Minnie inside on the lid instead assuming she doesnt read yet. ANother thought, one day you could also get some red helium balloons and draw a picture of Mickey Mouse on one or all on them and tie them in her bedroom. When you pick her up from preschool or kindergarten tell her there was a special surprise delivered for her at home one day after school. When she sees the balloons at home in her bedroom I bet she will get it. Hope this helps. Have a terrific time :>

Send her a letter or post card from Mickey inviting her to come visit him in Florida. (or it can be another character). If you call Disney they may even help you out and send a letter from the character in the character's handwriting! =0) And for your trip: for character dining our fave was the Cinderella buffet at the Grand Floridian. It was so so much fun. Enjoy your trip. You're gonna have a blast!

Such a lot of really cute ideas you have gotten. I would suggest one caution though. Don't mention it to her until you are only a little away from going. Otherwise she will drive you crazy and if something happens that you don't go she will be heartbroken.

Yes, we have the "Pizza" commercial here as well. Did you notice the pizza is in the shape of Mickey Mouse? Two smalls for th ears and one big one for the head. A couple of pepperoni for the eyes... I guess something a Disney Freak like myself notices.
Hey, I do little Disney supriss for kids. I have done tee-shirts, hats, pillowcases and always send a cute little letter; for my other Disney Freak buddies. I have made the kids tee shirts with Mickey or Minnie & their names. I then write in the card; "Something for you to wear when you come to visit me real soon". See you in X amount of days! I have gotton Post Cards signed and sent them to the kids as well. It ALWAYS goes over with a BIG hit. I have even taken Disney Stories and added last pages and have said at the end; "When the clock strikes 8 Kelly & Mickey have a date. She will get on the plane and come to my park. On December 7th will be a great start." See You Real Soon Kelly! Little kids love to read with the parents. It is a thing she will have to process; but THAT moment it "Clicks" is worth a million dollars. You can also due invitations and invite her to come to the steps of Cinderella's Castle. Oh so cute. When a little older, I have made "plane & park" tickets for kids. There are soooo many ideas. I once told a girl to do "I Spy" with the Christmas Tree and one of the items was a Mickey/favorite character ornament. Hanging from the ornament was a tag that said "See You Real Soon. Your Pal Mickey Mouse." I sure hope these help or spins wheels in your head to help. Have a MAGICAL trip!

Buy her some travel things - activities for the plane, a backpack or carry-on, a water bottle, and so on. They could be Disney-themed, or not. Try the Disney Store at your local mall or on line. Have a blast!

I would make mickey mouse pancakes for breakfast, and have a little mickey (or minnie) doll in her chair with a note saying "can't wait to see you!" They have really cute vintage looking minnie and mickey stuffed dolls at walmart right now. =) Whatever you do, you know she will be sooo excited!

What about writing a quick letter from her favorite Disney character and say something like "Dear X, I can't wait to meet you when you visit in November. Your friend, Ariel" Include a sticker w/ favorite character. Or you can use the Playhouse Disney celebration center and select the theme she would like best. Utilize the invitation and make a card with similiar idea as above (it will have the characters on there when you print it).
