Hand sanitizer... I know it sounds strange, but I have used it to get ink out of a lot of things. I dont need my kid to do it, I cant seem to manage to hold onto a writing utensil :) (this is also why i never wear white!)

Hi S. -
Boy can I relate! I took a shower one day while my 2-1/2 year old son was watching tv, I thought. When I came out, I had marker from one end of the house with drawings on the wall. UGH! Especially since I was renting!!
Well luckily, I had been part of a wholesale club that sold chemical and toxin free products for about a year at that time. They had a fabulous product that took marker off everything, even photographs (we dont want to talk about that one! LOL). Needless to say, my son was very active and I was really concerned about the products in my home. What was he going to do next? I was so relieved when I was introduced by a friend to the natural products! Not only did they give me peace of mind for my son not swallowing something harmful, they also helped my infant daughters asthma and allergies.
The one product to remove the stain on the carpet would be Sol-u-Mel, but the Pre-Spot laundry stain remover would probably also do the trick. (it even works on grape juice stains)
If you would like to know how to purchase the Sol-U-Mel (been a life saver in my home with my 2 kids!) or any of the "kid friendly" chemical free products, contact me.
Good luck!

There's a product in the detergent aisle of the grocery store - probably on the shelf near the dry cleaning products, called GONZO. It comes in a small white bottle with red text. It runs about $2.50. It works WONDERS!!! I use it on everything. Just soak some of it on the rug (it says to dab it, but I squirt it right on and soak the area) and then all you'll need to do is dab it off with a towel. VOILA! It even takes out stains you've already washed and dried into garments in the dryer. It really is a great product! Best of luck getting that stain out of the rug. Maybe you've already found something that's worked for you. :>)

I swear by grease lightening you can find it at any Home Depot but I haven't tried it on marker... however:

Guess what? It is called "permanent" marker for a reason, so depending on how new and how deep the stains are, you may not be able to remove them completely. The method here will get you as far as you can go anyhow.
The first thing to do to remove permanent marker stains from carpet, is to thoroughly vacuum the area. This will remove any loose dirt or dust or other substances that may give you trouble when you work on the stain.
For your carpet stain removal agent, use either rubbing alcohol or a non-oily hair spray. Apply a small amount to a clean white cloth, and dab at the stain. Use another dry cloth to blot between applications.
Apply the solution and blot it up several times. Then rinse with clean water and blot that up. Dry the area thoroughly.
Now to deal with what's left (if you couldn't get it all out). If the stain isn't too deep in the carpet, you may be able to snip away the stained edges with small scissors or with a razor blade or exacto knife. You can use tweezers to pull out severely stained fibers.
If you try the latter, you may want to remove clean carpet strands from another, hidden area in the room, then glue them into the stained area. Leave a heavy object on the spot for several days before walking on it.
Hope this helps

I can't give you advice on how to remove marker, but I only buy washable markers in my house. That's all I use. Good luck. I'd also try asking Heloise (heloise.com) or call the carpet manufacturer. They may be able to dye it.

Try Oxi Clean. Get the powder kind and mix it with hot water.

I know this may sound strange but try hydrogen peroxide. It takes just about any stain out of rugs.
