My boy/girl twins are 6 1/2 months old. They are both around 14 lbs but they were also born at 27 weeks. They eat about 6 oz. every 3 hours during the day and sleep all night from about 9:30-7:00 am. They also eat 4 oz. each of carrots or sweet potoatoes each day. Samantha also has a small amount of cereal in each bottle to help weigh her food down (reflux issues)Is this enough or is this to much? Sometimes I feel like they need more (not that they act like they need or want more)but then I don't want to over feed them either. Do you think I'm on the right track?

They will let you know how much they need!! If they do not cry for more let them be. I had the same questions and that was what everyone told me. A Baby will not eat more than what they need. My daughter 7 months old eats 3 tbl spoons rice in am, One fruit for lunch and one veg for dinner. We normaly use 3-4 7oz bottles each day. From 7a until 8pm
I think you all are doing just great. I have 8-1/2-month-old boy/girl twins myself and they are and about 17 or 18 lb each-- not sure as we haven't weighed them recently and go to the doctor next month. They were about the same size as yours at the same age. They were about 5 or 6 weeks early and stayed 10 days in the NICU. Eh, it's hard to remember details as my husband is working a grueling schedule so I've done most everything myself since Grandmommy's visit ended in November. But just wanted to say it's great that they're sleeping through the night and eating. You sound like you're handling all very well! All the best to you :)
hay it sounds like your doing great!! my son is 61/2 mo. and weighs 16lbs and thats 50 % for his age he is nursing and eating abut the same if they seem hungry give them more but if they are satified with what you are giving them then thats god for them hope this helps
I think you are doing just fine. If they are content, then you are giving them enough. My kids slept through the night from 7:30pm until around 8:00am. I use to worry about the same thing. What I learn is if they are hunger, they will wake at night. Several times they would fall asleep on the floor early and miss their last bottle. When ever that happen, they were up in the middle of the night for feedins. My kids were born on time and did not weigh 14lbs until they were 5 months old. If they are gaining weight, then you are feeding them enough.
sounds fine.. I have heard that babies should not get over about 32 oz of formula per day. so wehn they need more food than that.. it is time to add more solid foods.. they are probably ready for cereal, fruit and some green veggies.
Hi K., I am a 44 year old mother of two. My oldest was a preemie also and weighed in about the same as your twins. I learned, if they don't act as if they want more, don't give them more, that will only teach them early how to overeat. He is a healthy average size 21 year old Marine today. However my sister had a daughter just before me who only weighed 1 lbs and 14 oz, and she fed her enormous amounts of food even though she wasn't hungry, and she has struggled with a weight problem most of her life.

My son was born at 25 weeks and although his pediatrician said feed him 45 cc some days he would eat more (when he had JUST come home from the hospital). Then gradually he would eat a LOT more. Kids that age will stop when they are full. If you feel like maybe they will eat more offer more. If they are full they won't take it. But sometimes they surprise you! My son is now 6 and is NOT over weight and NOT under weight. He is in the 50th percentile for weight, and about 55% for height. Feeding children is not an exact science. You sound like a GREAT mom! Glad your twins are doing so well!
Have you checked with your peditrician? It is hard to think back that far for me. lol I have triplets that will be 5 the end of June. They were born 6 1/2 weeks early and only spent 9 days in the NICU. All 3 came home the same time. You sound like you are doing pretty good but I would start adding a little more vegtables, but like I said, check with your ped. :) BTW Do you belong to any of the multiples/twins groups in the area?
It sounds like they are doing fine, for their age. As they get a bit more confident with the solids, you can start shifting more of their meals to solids, rather than formula. But, right now, it seems fine. When you do decide to shift the feeding schedule, you might try cereal every morning, then baby food for lunch and dinner, with formula to supplement in between. But I think you've got a couple months before you need to worry about any of that.

Your doctor is the best advice. I am also a mother of twins-girls age 3. Me personally, think your right on track. I don't think I'd do too much too soon with more food. They'll let you know if they need more. As long as they seem happy, healthy I think your headed in the right direction.
