How Many of You

I was just curious how many people use online rating sites when choosing a doctor, plumber, etc. I really didnt before, but I do now. I find it helpful reading people's personal experiences when using a service. Do any of you use them?

What can I do next?

I prefer a personal recommendation from someone I know or a friend of a friend. However, I think online sites are useful. Keep in mind that more people complain though than praise. I would look for a review from someone who had a similar service performed.

No I do not. I don't think they are objective points of view.

There are so many vindictive people out there just looking for ways to hurt other for some reason or another.

On the other hand, you don't know if a wonderful rating is true because someone could be promoting their own services.

I prefer word of mouth references and recommendations when I am looking for some service or product.

I don't. I use my friends and family for advice on that kind of thing. I try to give family friends business if I can----word of mouth good or bad gets around quick!

I use them as a back up, but not solely to make decisions on services. However, I heavily value ratings and feedback when buying products online or booking travel, because not everyone I know travels or buys items I do.

I do because we ended up with a dentist who had MENTAL problems. I am serious. Had I read the reviews and stories online, I would have avoided this person.
Also, my insurance company has a site that rates them based on patient care and outcomes. I love that.
I do ignore if it is one person because sometimes people use the sites to get back at others.

We use Angie's List and really like it. Often, a business will offer a small discount for their service, too, if you mention that you found them on Angie's List.

I try for personal recommendations first, then it depends what I am looking for, for plumbers etc. I check the BBB, for Doctors in NY the state has a site that you knows about the Dr (education, malpractice suits, etc.), then last I use web ratings. You never know if they are the truth (self promotions, nasty perosn etc.).

I love Yelp! Use it pretty regularly.

I, too, prefer a personal recommendation from someone I know. And trust.
