How Long Must This Teething for a 20 Month Old Go On??

We are going through the same teething issues with our 17 month old. He's actually working on his 2 year molars. He's been miserable every other month since Christmas and so have we. Recently, I started being more aggressive with the pain meds and it's really making a difference.

First, you can't overdose her as long as you don't exceed the daily recommended dosage, and it's safe to give over long periods of time. What I've been doing is giving 1 tsp of Motrin with breakfast, then about an hour and a half later, I give 1.6 ml of Tylenol. Make sure you adjust the dosages for your daughter's weight, of course. Then I continue the Tylenol every 4 hours (usually two more times during the day) and then finish up with another dose of Motrin about a half hour before bed. It's ok if the two meds overlap - you won't "overdose" her because they're different medicines. My theory is that the Motrin will "kickstart" her day, then the Tylenol offers more consistent relief because you can give it more often. Then at bedtime, the stronger Motrin will help her relax and fall asleep.

Doing this has completely changed everything for us. Our son is like a different person - yesterday in the grocery store, he just sang and flirted with other shoppers. I've normally had to give him snacks, binky, cell phone, etc. just to stop him from whining. He's sleeping a lot better too. Try this, it worked wonders for us!

My 18 month old recently got his 4 canines and they were HORRIBLE as well. LOTS of crying and crabbiness, LOTS of cuddles to TRY to comfort him, SEVERAL sleepless night, and LOTS of Tylenol!! They were by far worse for him as well. I understand what you are going through. Luckily 2 came in at the same time...though aweful the time was a LITTLE shortened and then the other two one at a time back to back by a couple days. But it was AWEFUL! We had about a month of the bad pain I want to say. Glad they are in and he is back to being a happy camper!! So you should be almost there! Hang in there!!!!

Have you tried teething tablets, they work wonderfully all homeopathic and they melt in your baby's mouth. My boys all loved them, they thought they were candy, it helps with pain so you don't have to overload on the tylanol.

Our 23M old had a bad weekend about 3 weeks ago. Drooling, crabby (very), not sleeping through the night, slight fever and diaper rash. All this seemed to coincide with his bottom tooth coming in. Sure enough on Monday or Tuesday after the bad weekend, I saw the little bugger pop through. He has one more tooth left and I'm sure it will be the same ordeal.

We, too gave the Motrin to help him (and us) sleep through the night and discomfort. As long as you are following the recommended dosage, I don't think you should worry about "over dosing". To make ourselves feel better, we gave him 1/2 dosages during the day, but only if he seemed in miserable pain and the full dose at night. Instead of the Motrin during the day, we gave him a frozen washcloth to gnaw on and a lot of cold water (helped with the diaper rash, too).

It is funny how every child is different. My first son got teeth and did not have any drooling nor any being a crabby pants. My second son has had the most difficult time--chewing on everything, drooling, crying, I too give him motrin after motrin but he still is so unhappy. I guess there is really nothing we can do but let the teeth come in.
