How Do You Get a Grease Stain/oil Stain Out of a Cloth Headboard?

We have a nice Crate and Barrel headboard. It's woven cloth and a lighter, tan color. My husbands head has over time made a nice oil/grease stain on it. Can that be removed? Would steam cleaning or some sort of shampooing work?

What can I do next?

I don't know about the headboard. I'd ask crate and barrel first.

However, when our clothes get any sort of oily type mark, I use a fan of Dawn dishwash liquid, dab and let it sit a little while then wash. Works every time.

There was (is?) a product called 'K2R' spot lifter. It was an aerosol that you could spray on a spot, allow to dry, and brush away.

Years ago, I used it on exes ties, and had some good success with oily food stains for dry clean only items.

Might be worth a google.

best!

I would use some laundry detergent (clear liquid) and/or Dawn dish soap (also a clear one). Both are made to dissolve grease. Once the spot is gone then use a steam cleaner for the entire head board.

Yes.
But please only try the shampoo on his head, don't steam clean it!
(Sorry, couldn't resist!😛)

I would use a carpet scrubber with an upholstery attachment. If you don't own one you can rent them or maybe borrow one from a friend.

You can rent a rug doctor at most hardware stores or grocery stores. Get the attachments for upholstery.

I'd use a soap that had a degreaser in it. Try it on a small out of the way area first to make sure you figure out how to work the tools and that you haven't added way too much soap.
