Hormone Levels?

I recently found out that I'm pregnant again. :) Because I have a history of miscarriage my OB sent me for a blood test last Wednesday. My HCG was 155 or there about. I went for my 48 hours follow-up and my HCG was 555.1. Now I know it's supposed to at least double in 48 hours and that's not much more than doubling but I don't know what to think. And this will sound crazy but both my mom and husband have the gut feeling that I'm having twins. Does anyone have experience with having the blood draws (initial, 48 hours later and then once a week) and what their HCG levels with twins/multiples were? I'm just looking for some voice of reason/experience.

Also on a side note, for those of you who have twins/multiples, do you fill out a pregnancy journal (bound book not online journal/blog) or pregnancy calendar for each twin? Or just one for the pregnancy?

I have never had my blood check like that, but I have a friend who is currently pregnant with twins. Her #'s were similar to yours, but at the time when she talked to the Dr. about it and from the research I did on line, the range of normal HCG levels and the rate of normal increase are sooo drasticaly varied, that they said you can not tell from the HCG tests if you are having twins or not, all you can tell is that drops show a sign of problem and increases are a sign that everything is going good. Not sure if that helped much, but good luck!! You will find out before you know it one way or another.

In my opinion I don't believe it is twins. I have a history of miscarriage so I had to have my HCG levels tested all the time. The way that you have had yours double but not quite triple the level in 48 hrs shows me that you are carrying a healthy single child. If you were carrying twins I would think that they would at least quadruple. Congratulations... I wish the best for you and your unborn child.

I do have to say that my levels did that to and then I found out that we were having twins well we have twin boys I was 7 weeks when I found out it was the best thing every You will just have to have an ultrasound to find out that is what I did but having my twins is the best thing that has ever happened to me
One of my friend had the same thing happen to her and now she has triplets (they are 2) and a set of twins(they are 5 months) that is funny right that is what I told her

My sister was a little bit older when she got pregnant the 1st time and they tld her two reasons (I don't know if this is for everyone or just for her) that her HCG would be high. Reason 1 is because she had just stopped taking the pill about 6 weeks before she got pregnant or she would be having twins. It was twins. I don't know if that is for everyone but she thought herself that she was having twins before the dr told her because she was reading the what to expect book and was a bit farther along then she should have been. She actually found out at 10 or 12 weeks.
GOOD LUCK!
