While I have tried olive oil and garlic drops and found them both to be helpful, I wanted to add a few other suggestions. What I found to be most relieving was holding a warm washcloth to my ear for 10-15 mintues 3-4 times a day. Also, visiting the dentist helped (I had a splint made to help relieve jaw discomfort that was causing ear pain). Although it may sound a bit unconventional, chiropractic adjustments assist with the relief of ear infections in people of all ages (including infants) without antibiotics.

Try garlic oil or Vitamin E oil. You can get the soft gels at many places like wal-mart or k-mart. Just use a pin or needle and poke a hole in the soft gel and squirt it in the ear.

You can't make this but you can buy garlic oil and mullein drops for ears. They are awesome!
Also, if your earache is sinus related (mine often are) you can buy a nasal wash kit at Wal-Mart and that may alleviate some of the pressure to your ears.
If you have a fever, though, I would not wait to go to the Doctor.
I hope you feel better soon!

It really depends on the earache and you may need to try a few different things to find out which works for THIS earache. I have MANY MANY earaches. Most of the time putting a little Vick's Vapor Rub on a cotton ball and then putting it in your ear works. (This seems to work best if you lay still for a while) There are time that my earache is different and then the 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar and drop that into your ear works better. I don't know maybe it is where the pain actually is in the ear.

A friend had told me that the similason drops work or a couple drops of tea tree oil. The first one you can get at Target or Cub and the second at the natural food store. I haven't tried either, but was told both help.

Growing up my mom always put a warm wash cloth over our ear that hurt.

Merry Christmas Gina. My son was getting lots of ear infections and the dr. told me to mix equal parts vinigar and peroxide. Using a dropper put a few drops and lie on your side for 10 mins. We did this 3 times a day and it helped alot!! I hope it helps you too. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

When I get earaches, I put cotton in my ear(s) to warm them up. That seems to work, and I have been having them since I was a kid.

We've also used warm Olive Oil. It feels nice and takes some of the pain away. And regular Tylenol works as well.

My husband swears by garlic in olive oil. He soaks the garlic in the olive oil for a few hours (or days, he sometimes just keeps it on the counter if the kids are sick), then put some on a cotton ball and then in your ear. I haven't tried it, but it seems to work on my kids (4, 2 and 9 months). It can make you hungry for Italian food!

+Hi Gina,

Sometimes earaches are not infection. I had a horrible ear ache and went to the dr. only to find that I did not have an infection. Instead, he said I needed to take Sudafed. I was convinced this guy was nuts, but he wouldn't budge on his advice! I did not have a cold or anything else at the time. I went to WalMart, bought the generic Sudafed at the pharmacy, and started taking it. It didn't take long for it to stop. Apparently, you can have sinus problems that affect your ears without other symptoms!

Hope this helps!

I always used to use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol or perxiode. You put as much liquid on the cotton ball as you can to allow it to fit in the ear.

It will drip a little at first but it supposedly draws out ear ache.

give it a try
