So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone for answering. Overall it seems most of you were not happy with Plantation Gnrl. I will be seeing a Dr. next week who delivers at Memorial West. I have heard good things about him and will see next week. Its Dr. Stempel. Thanks again to everyone.

Both would be very low on my list of choices. Memorial Regional has good ldr care, no mother baby separation (which is an AAP guideline), but...and this is a big huge but...you share a room postpartum. Yuck. Share a bathroom too. SO, that bugs me. Now, Plantation General. Forget it. Won't touch that one.I have not heard a happy experience out of that one in years. Okay, so I guess that depends on what you want. If you don't want to see your baby for hours after the birth and don't care too much about what happens during the birth, you are good there.

Now, for the very best hospitsl..>Memorial West. And if you want the very best OBs to go with. Dr. Gil Aronson, Dr. Lawrence Stemple, Dr. Spiers...those are my top docs for Memorial Regional or Memorial West. Oh, and Memorial West has private rooms. Some rather nice size large ones where there is room for Daddy to sleep.

i hated plantation general! felt very rushed from the moment i got there & very forced into pitocin, drugs, etc. literally had nurses rolling eyes at me! they were basically prepping me for a c-section from the start, even though i was aiming for a natural. i won in the end, but definitely had the feeling everyone was annoyed with me. not to mention, thankfully i had my baby rooming in so i could breast feed and it went successfully without their help, because on the day i went home i asked if i was supposed to see a lactation consultant and they seemed baffled that i was nursing! certainly no personal care or follow through. go elsewhere! i've heard great things about memorial west if you have to go the hospital route, but i'm very excited to be giving birth next month at the miami maternity center where no doctors or nurses can get in my way! good luck :)(

If it's memorial hospital west, I thought they were very rushed and very busy when I went to visit a friend of mine who was having a baby. She however, like it.

I delivered at Plantation. I just read some posts from your question and it frightens me as I delivered @ Plantation almost three years ago. One of the mom's said that she felt rushed; which is so true; however, because I was leaking fluid, I was induced and was given pitocin; which I won't ever do again.

My doctor at the time, "I have a different doctor today", didn't do any interventions and he barely was in the room. The second shift of nurses was like having chickens with their heads cut off. I basically knew where that delivery was going. I did end up with a c-section and my son was brought to me the next day. I was thinking, how is he going to be fed since I made sure they knew that I planned on breastfeeding.

They were very short staffed and some nurses were nice and one was Nurse Rachett. Oh, and a friend of mine over heard one of the one nurses say, that I should stop being a baby and suck it up.

I am 19 weeks along now and have looked into another doctor because I was thinking about having a V-BAC; however, after that experience at Plantation, I'm not sure if I want to go through labor again. My body doesn't fare well with drugs and having that inducement was like someone stabbing me.

My doctor that I have been seeing for two years is Dr. Jay Cohen. He doesn't do V-BACS any more. He did them for 18 years but because he's one of the only S. Fla Doctor's that has Malpractice, the attorneys don't allow his practice to do them any more. I absolutely adore him and he had so many referrals; I wish that he had delivered my son.

The doctor that I consulted with recently delivers at Broward General. So far, a lot of people like Broward. It's been around a long time. My husband and his sisters were born there.

I am going to ask my doctor about why he delivers at Plantation and discuss what some of your responses said. I do know that people take it or leave it.

I wanted to mention that while I was in labor with my son, one of the administrators asked for our deductible.

Things change; they could have gotten worse or better. I did like the security at Plantation.

I blame my experience on my doctor. I know that he had places to be and I went into labor three weeks early.

Do what's best for you. I hope that this helps.

when I worked at PGH 10 years ago, the ob department was very good. And at least at that time, the anesthesiologist on call stayed in the hospital all night. There was always someone available for emergencies. The nursing staff was very good too. I don't know if things have changed, but that's how it was then.....you might give a call and at least see if the doctors on-call stay there; that is a key question. They also had some REALLY good nurse-anesthestists who specialized in OB and were worth their weight in gold!

Hi Dear, I delivered at three hospitals; but not the ones you mentioned. My suggestion is that you visit the two of your choice, make an appointment with the director and go for a tour...Just as when we go to the OB office, the most important aspect is "how happy is the staff?" When they are happy, the patient is happy...
Get a feel for the hospital. Which is closer, which feels cleaner, competent staff, and also, which does your doctor recommend? Ask his nurse, too. You have lots of time to make a list and check off the pros and cons.
God bless, dear, and happy baby-day!

Wow, I cant believe all thenegative feedback about Plantation. I must have been one of the very few lucky ones. I had all 3 of my kids there and they are 7, 5, and 1. I had to have an emergency c-section with my daughter (7 year old) she had the cord around her neck and a knot in it as well, i pushed for 3 hours in every position imaginable and they really tried to help me because they knew i wanted natural delivery with all my might but in the end it was about delivering a healthy baby and with the other 2 it was best to have the c-sections because of there size. i have to say the nurses were WONDERFUL!!! they were friendly, helpful, encouraging. my son, the 5 year old went into the NICU and i cant tell you how wonderful they were to me and my family and of course my baby and when we went home they took me around and all applauded, it was a truly wonderful and memorable experience and my last little guy who just turned 1, they were again very nice and i was having strange pains in my neck and they really tried to accomidate me. so my point is, i dont think that there is really a place that is going to make everyone happy 100% BUT maybe you should visit the hospitals yourself and get a feel for what you think is more comforting to you.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

I went to Plantation General and had a historectomy. It
was the first and the last time I would ever go to that hospital. The nurses are rude and heaven forbid you buzz them for anything. I would NEVER let anyone I know go to that hospital. Go to Hollywood Memorial.

L.,

I would not go to Plantation. I did not go to Plantation but I have had a couple of friends deliver at Plantation and for them it was nightmares. For their subsequent deliveries they chose Hollywood. It is a much nicer hospital and the doctors and and the nursery staff are nicer. I can also recommend a great OB-GYN. His name is Dr. Robert Siudmak in Hollywood, right down the street from Memorial Regional in Hollywood, ###-###-####. He has an amazing bedside manner, he cares about his patients and he is an amazing doctor. I wouldn't change doctors for anything. I have deliverd 2 of my 3 boys at this hospital and I would do it all again. And unfortunately with my youngest child he had to be in the nicu for 8 days and there is no other place I would rather have had him be. They have the best staff.

I hope this helps.
