Hey Sports Fans... I Need Your Help!

This is a gift question...

I have a pretty freakin' terrific husband. He works very hard for us...so much so that his boss noticed some 'above and beyond' effort and treated us to a couple Yankees games (with travel and lodgings) up in Seattle this week. I knew my guy was a big Yankees fan, but had no idea until we went to the games how much it meant to him. The whole trip was a great time away for he and I, and I kept coming back to the fact that if it wasn't for his consistent commitment to family/work, we never would have had this wonderful time at all.

So, here's the question: this year my guy is turning 50 and I would really like to give him something special (Yankees memorabilia, esp.) but not break the bank, to show my appeciation and acknowledge how hard he does work for us. Any good ideas? (Besides having an ESPN chip planted in his head so he could keep up on all the scores in real time, ha ha!)

Two things to clarify: Staying frugal, we are friends with our antenna converter box, so adding channels is out-- but great suggestion.

Also- he's a native New Yorker, so that's where his love of the Yankees comes from-- They're his home team.:) It's not an affected fandom of his...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow... some great suggestions! I only wish I had a job, so I wouldn't have to spend money he earns on his gift!

Yankees...patooie!

OK now that that's out of the way...there is probably some memorabilia for sale from the old stadium. I know that when Fenway Park renovates, they sell the old seats or sell pieces of the seats in other items (pencils, etc.). I think RedEnvelope has some non-traditional baseball gifts. Signals probably does too.

Here is the link to the RE baseball stuff - some is quite pricey but who knows?:

This is kind of cool:

Hope that helps! Go Red Sox!

Just found out that the Costco photo center has sports pictures ... You can pick out a really cool one with the Yankees and have it framed (which they also do)! Price depends on the size. They have a really wide and varied selection ... It's great! You can even preview and order on line and then just go there to pick it up! This will be what DH gets for his birthday this year.

Can you get him the sports package for your tv? And the first thing that came to my mind is a fantasy baseball camp. Where they guys are baseball players for a week or so. I'm sure that would break the bank, but just wanted to give you the idea.

Too bad he's a Yankees fan though! ;)

Do you already have MLB package on your cable or satellite? If not I highly recommend it. I would also look into getting him memorabilia items that fit his lifestyle. For instance, my husband loves jerseys and hats so that is what I get. Would you be opposed to purchasing tickets for Yankee games whenever they're in the PNW? I'm sure your husband would love whatever you choose to get him.

There are a whole bunch of signed memorabilia available, even some baseballs for under $200.

They even have a Joe Pepitone autographed ball for under $50.

Look on ebay for some neat Yankees gear. You could get framed pictures for his office. You can find an official Yankees team gear website (every team has one at mlb.com) and buy him a jersey. Bookstores will have really nice photo/history books about the team.

Also, since the old Yankee stadium isn't in use anymore, you might be able to find memorabilia from that (sometimes they will sell the actual seats, bricks from the stadium, etc)

I am a huge Red Sox fan, so it's a little painful answering this question. :D

Hi! Does he have a favorite player? I am reading a great book Driving Mr Yogi right now. Maybe you could put together a package of books? Check Ebay for a player item. JCPenney has some cool Yankee stuff. I have two giant size Pez dispensers, Snoopy and Charlie Brown, with Mets caps. There is so much stuff out there. I'll bet the Yankees shop is online. How about an Ichiro shirt? Good luck!

Check out him being able to watch and/or listen online. I am watching the game (Mets) right now. I think the audio only is only like 20-25 for the year.

Heres's a link to the gift guide from the Yankees website. They have an 8 issue magazine subscription for $50. That's kind of pricy I know but my husband and dad both love magazine subscriptions as gifts. Of course they could find most of the info online, but there's something cool about sitting down with their guy magazine and chilling out. Plus every six weeks he'll get a reminder of how much you love him and pay attention to his interests :-)
