So my husband & I are big sports fans, we both have favorite pro teams for football, baseball, hockey & basketball. So last night while watching the Broncos game, I asked my husband what we would do if one of our kids played prosports for a team that we arent fans of. Of course we would support our kiddo regardless but It would be hard to be a fan of a differant team. For example We are huge Bronco fans so if our kids played pro football and got drafted to the Raiders that would be tough! So I was just wondering what would you other mamas do? Would you support both teams? Or just switch to being a fan of whatever team your kiddo played for?
*added* haha Steph D., I totally agree! I am a Yankees fan and if my son played for the red sox I might just drop dead :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hahaha P.S. Thats so funny! Being a broncos fan we dont always know what winning is, last night we sure didnt! But I think I would still be a broncos fan, and a Yankee fan until my dying day even if my son plays for the Raiders or Red Sox. I would love my son and his team and pray for a trade :)

For pro teams it's not a big deal to me but if one of my kids went to a rival college that would be hard, I hope to never have to find out !

I've often haf a fantasy of one of my boys playing UGA football, and then I think, "Oh God -what if he played for Florida?!?" THAT would be an extremely difficult transition. I would always cheer him on, but I don't know that my heart would completely be in it. Probably not something I actually have to worry about!

@ p.s. - lmfao!!!! I really tried to like the Texans. I had a little crush on thier quarterback, but no, they still suck!

well... I was never a fan of the Jets. I am a Cowboy fan to my dying day. So - NY? Uhhh NO! Then I watched Hard Knocks last year. It's an HBO series that followed the Jets through training camp. After watching thier trials and tribulations, getting to know the coach and the players on a personal level, I found myself with a growing affection for the Jets. Still sworn enemies if they play the Cowboys, of course. SO, I think if my kid played for someone I hate ....Steelers, Packers, 49ers, Redskins, I would learn to love the team and be affectionate toward them the more I got to know the guys on a personal level.

I'm a Cleveland fan (Browns, Tribe and Cavs) If my child played for the Steelers I would buy their jersey and wear it to everyone of his games...except the one where he played the Browns. At that point I'd wear a Browns jersey and have a sign that says "Sorry son, old habits die hard. GO BROWNS!" And of course I'd sit in the Dawg Pound.

Now if they played college sports and went to a Michigan school...I'd have to disown them. There are just some things that you can't forgive. ;)

ETA: Just read some of the other posts. I love reading Sam I Am!'s posts and answers...but now that I found out she's a Steelers fan I may have to re-think that. ;)

I totally agree with Steph D., but honestly I think all of my kids would turn down playing for the cubs. We are die hard Cardinal and Royal fans.

That would be a tough choice to say the least. Living in the area that I do, sport teams are VERY well supported. However, your kids are your kids and you are their biggest fan no matter what. So I would cheer for both (only for the one my kid played on while he is on that team) but knowing my true pride is for my STEELERS! You can always hope the kid gets traded :)
I hear you Sam I Am! lol

My kids weren't going pro. I'm not a sports fan for any sport but football. Even then I don't much care for pro football.

When my kids wanted to play basketball, I became an avid basketball fan. When they out grew basket ball my desire to see basketball died almost instantly.

I don't care for pro sports because any pro sports player will switch teams at the drop of a hat (or lucrative contract). They have no loyality and neither do I. Kids on the other hand love their schools and usually won't switch on a whim.

I would become a fan of what ever team my kids played for.

Good luck to you and yours.

I think knowing someone on the team is much more important. Probably none of the Broncos are from Denver.

My nephew was drafted by the Astros - and we are Red Sox fans...now if he got picked up by the Yankees? Man. I love my nephew to death but I'd have a hard time sitting in the stands cheering for the Yankees - I'd only have to cheer for my nephew!! LOL!!!
