Help...my 3 Year Old Daughter Suddenly Started experienFrequent Urges to Urinate

My first instinct is that she has a fear of having an accident. Maybe she had a bad dream where she peed and was humiliated? I guess you wont know the answer to that, but if you say it isn't behavioral, then it isn't. Just keep letting her know she can always go to the potty anytime she wants too. My niece loved going to the potty when she was that age. She drove my sister crazy wanting to stop everywhere and go pee.

Start giving her more Alkaline water and that will help her hydrate better and release toxins from her body.

i agree with you that this is not a sudden behavioral thing that is showing up. the DR doesn't know the answer and is making something up. please check out the book the GAP syndrome and check the article i'm giving a link for. i read this article in the Wise Traditions journal twice through in amazement and awe the first time i came across it. it really opened my eyes to the fact that soooo many of the health issues in our country are due to what we eat and western doctors don't see this connection. she even talks about how issues in the gut affect the UT and can cause bedwetting, painful urination, yeast infections around the groin (which causes people to grab themselves all the time). this may have answers for you

I agree with one of the earlier posts go back to the doctor and ask that they have a lab urinalysis. My daughter gets frequent UTI's and she actually has no symptoms. Like one of the other posts stated, her urine smells and that is how I know she has one. It's best to have the lab urinalysis anyway, because if you are anything like me you would hate to have your child on antibiotics unless you were absolutely sure. I have gone to the natural food store and gotten cranberry in concentrate to try and help minimize the amount of infections. Also, as soon as I know it is coming on I will give her acidopholus. Sunrise Natural foods has a great one that has a great flavor that she doesn't mind sucking on. I hope some of this will help you with your situation. Good luck.

I would want a second opinion. If it is behavioral, why is she waking up 4-6 times a night? That doesn't sound behavioral. Maybe another test for a UTI, maybe with a different doctor.

I haven't had a UTI in years, but I had one about 3 times in my life and only the last one involved blood, so the fact that there is no blood is not an indication of anything. Feeling the urge to urinate really badly and then nothing coming out sounds like a UTI to me.

Any new foods? Any changes in underwear materials? How about laundry soaps? Bathing Products? Do you front-load her water intake during the day or does she fill up before bedtime?

My son had the same behavior and I also took him to the doctor for a UTI test, which came out negative. He continued with the behavior, and I just knew it was a UTI. I called the doctor back and they prescribed antibiotics due to my insistance. After two days on the antibiotics, he didn't have any more symptoms. You might try taking her to another doctor to get a second opinion/test. I think that the test my son's doctor did just didn't have enough urine to sample (it is so difficult to get enough in that cup!)

Sometimes UTIs dont show up if she's been drinking a lot of water. Have them recheck with the first urine in the morning. They can send you home a cup to collect the sample.

Ask the dr to send a urine sample to the lab for testing. Dips are not always accurate at the start of a UTI, often people can feel symptoms before it will show up on a dip. If the problem persists see a urologist. If she passes his evaluation ok then look into behavioral issues. You could start loading her up on cranberry juice to see if it helps any.....Good luck.

I'm wondering, since she's probably just recently potty trained, if this might be an issue of her having fears that she will have an accident and she's just trying to go more often to prevent that. If that's the case you may need to help her understand that an accident in her underwear or at night isn't the end of the world and can be dealt with.

If all medical conditions have been ruled out, and you should have the Dr. check for all medical issues, not just a UTI, then maybe a lot of reassurance and love are the key to solving her problems with this.

i would talk to another doc about uti testing. if it's not a uti but was before it can become a bladder or (even worse)a kidney infection. i'm sure you know how painful uti's can be, and i don't see a three year old using something like that for extra attention. something else very well could be happening and her doctor should be doing more than just a urine test if it's coming back negitive and she's still complaining of pain. maybe having a more sympathetic pediatrician would help? best of luck.

If there has been no fever, it could be a yeast infection--or cystitis. If it continues, take her back to the doc--and if she/he doesn't listen, ask for a referral to a urologist or find another pedi!!

I have intersticial cystitis but I didn't get it until I was almost 25. It's a horrible bladder condition that causes me extreme pain and frequent urges to urinate. I have to be on MS contin (morphine) every day. The symptoms are a lot like a UTI but there is no bacteria present so it wouldn't show a postive UTI. It was hard to get diagnosed. I had to see a number of Drs. and finally a urologist who put me under and tested the capacity of my bladder and the condition of the lining.
Hope it's not this for your daughter!!! I wouldn't trust to Dr. Sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about.

The first time I had a UTI, I didn't know what was happening to me. I had to pee, but nothing would come out. It feels like you'll wet yourself any minute but try as you might, you can't go. I can tell now the minute I'm getting an infectin. I have trouble peeing. That's always the first sign. Give her cranberry juice and lots of liquids, but at this point, if she has an infection, she needs medicine to help her out. I'd rather risk giving the antibiotics instead of waiting till she has blood in her urine and it's in her kidneys.
I'm just saying that if it's an infection it will not go away until it gets worse if you just leave it alone.
Only have your daughter shower so that she's standing up to get clean and no water can invade her little parts. Don't let her soak in a tub but let her air out as much as possible after going potty and maybe even stick her hiney under the bath faucet to rinse her off well until she gets over this.

My Granddaughter has had this issue many times in the past. Ask yourself if she smells different. If she does then you know she has a UTI. I would do the first morning urine and have her checked again. The UTI's don't always show up. I have also had a time where I insisted she was medicated and two days later she was much better even though the doctor said the test showed nothing. Remember you are your daughter's only advocate on this issue and get it treated ASAP! My by the way my Granddaughter is also only three. I would call the doctor and demand a prescription if it were me. Better safe than letting your daughter suffer!
