Help with Ear Infections

My 2 year old woke up with double ear infections! I know this because he had tubes put in last year. He only has one still working, so the one with the tube is draining and the one without is draining too, which means his eardrum ruptured! This is the second time it has ruptured in 2 weeks! I am hoping maybe it was not healed yet, but it is still infected again no matter what. This is the third time he has had ear infections in less than 2 months!
Has anyone else had experience with a ton of ear infections?? I do not want to bombard his body with constant antbiotics, I need to figure out a different plan. I have had him tested for allergies and he is okay with most everything. The bad stuff we avoid.
So, I am hoping for some new ideas from you.
Thanks!
J.

J.-I think we have talked about dairy right?? I would start doing food elimination. Gluten would be next. The antibiotics are still in his system making him prone to getting more infections. Antibiotics do not treat it. Hydrogen peroxide, debrox may help. Let me consult my essential oils/herbalogy guide and I will get back with you. I do believe if you use peppermint oil with an entric (such as olive oil or coconut oil and place a drop in each ear may work as well.

my now 7 year old had a terrible time as well. Even after getting tubes, we continued to have infections, although we did see some improvement after the tubes. That said, we had amazing luck with him and my younger son with chiropractic. The chiropractor explained that the way kid's ears and tubes are situated can be a breeding ground for infections, but that with adjustment (very gentle, not the "cracking" most people imagine) the drainage can be improved as well as strengthening their little immune systems to be better equipped to fight off the infections. As a side note, we discovered an amazing benefit behaviorally and continued to use her long after the ears were no longer an issue. We often found that when our oldest was having behavior problems and couldn't control himself, if we went for an adjustment, she would find that he was way out of alignment on a particular side and the problem would improve dramatically. When we brought this to her attention, she did more study and found that there's a whole school of thought in chiropractic on this front and has started using treatments for kids with sensory integration disorder and autism for the neurological benefits.
I don't know where you live, but we saw Stephanie Maj at Community Chiropractic in Chicago.

Heat up the two tablespoons of olive oil. Grate or finely chop some onion and mince some garlic cloves.
Add two tablespoons of each to the pan. Add one tablespoon of water and fry lightly. Strain the fried onion and garlic into a jar or bottle.
Use a medicine dropper or eyedropper to put a few drops into the infected ear. Tilt your head or, preferably, lie down on your side for 15 minutes. Drain it out and then rinse your ear with water
I am also a chiropractor and can do an 'ear release adjustment' to aid in drainage and prevent occurance. I work with many children who've had similar problems We are located in Tinley park ###-###-#### ask to speak to me directly, Dr. Lex

If you have pure tea tree oil, mix with olive oil and keep in glass vial. Use dropper to apply 2 drops in each ear. Tea tree oil kills bacteria, is a natural disinfectant and pain reliever as well. Because it is so strong, it is recommended to mix with olive oil. You need to be very careful and I commend you for stopping the antibiotics as his system will become immune to them and the cycle will just continue. I know how bad you and he must feel. Was down that path with 2 of my own children. Very draining!! Good luck and keep your health too.

J.,
I just posted this to another mom that was kind of wondering the same thing.Chiropratic care worked wonders for my kids!! They were scheduled to have tubes, adnoids and tonsils removed. We started taking them to the chiro and never had to have any surgery or anything. My youngest 2 have NEVER had an ear infection. I would give it a try-it may take a couple of times, but it is totally worth it. I am not sure where you live, but we go to a fantastic chiro in munster, in-Hofferth Family Chiropractic ###-###-####. FYI-I know many people get scared when you mention chiro-my doctor uses a computer to adjust you(not his hands like they used to do). The equipment is called Pro Adjsuter(I am sure you can google it and see all the info about it). I would probably only confuse you if I tried to explain how it worked in my own words ;) Good luck!!

I'm assuming you've already talked to the pediatrician and/or ear/nose/throat dr. about the ear drum rupture.....I had a TON of ear infections as a child - even after tubes - and my ear drum ruptured and the main concern was add'l infection getting in - now that was also the mid-80's so not sure how they handle it now! good luck, I remember how painful that is!
