Help with Dog Hair!

I have 2 black dogs that I love dearly--a lab mix and a dachshund mix. Both shed, but the dachshund has long hair and sheds A LOT, even after using the Furminator! (Black fur on light beige carpet is not a good thing!) I vacuum every day, but my vacuum doesn't do the best job. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced (less than $300) vacuum that picks up dog hair? I'm willing to pay more to get something that works well. Thanks Mamas!

What can I do next?

I have a yellow lab that sheds constantly in huge amounts. I finally broke down and got the dyson animal. It works really well but the price is more than you want to spend. Think it was $540 but was worth it to me. It really does get all the hair.

We have two beagles and used to have a pug, so we are quite familiar with battling the dog hair (the beagles are tri-color, so hair shows up on EVERYTHING!). We've had a Eureka Smart Boss for almost 5 years, and it is hands-down the best vacuum I've ever owned. The suction on that thing is amazing, and the attachments are convenient and work great for doing furniture and stairs. It was under $200 at Best Buy when we bought it. We looked into getting a Dyson at the time, but the consumer reports we looked at ranked this vac higher, and since my husband was out of work, we went with the more economical choice. I think we made the right one!

I would also recommend trying GNC shedding formula (we get it at PetSmart). It's a supplement in chewable pill form. The dogs love it, and we have definitely noticed a reduction in the amount of shedding. You should check with your vet first, but that might help you out some too.

I don't know about a vacuum (I have hardwood floors)... but I thought I'd let you know that for furniture, the Pet Hair Eraser works like magic. I thought I would never find anything that could get the embedded hair out of our microfiber couch cushions, and this thing really does the trick. It's like a squeegee, and takes a little elbow grease, but it's worth it. Only about $10, too.

I recently bought a Miele vacuum. They are a bit pricey, but so worth it! It picks up all the hair on my hardwood and carpeted floors and I vacuum my dog's beds with it too. You have to clean the brush every once in a while as the hair gets wrapped around the brushes, but other than that it's great!

We have and love our Dyson. It does great on all surfaces cleaning up after a dog, three cats, baby, and two adults. Bed Bath and beyond coupons work so it is great if they still have the 20 or 25 percent off ones. That was how we got ours about six years ago.

The Dyson is so worth it. For couches, pillows, bedspreads, I use that little Pledge thing. Works great and there are always $1 off coupons for it.

OMG, I know how you feel! We have a black lab and a choc. lab mix...both shed A LOT! We have mostly hardwood floors, with a few areas rugs...I sweep/vaccum EVERYDAY...5 minutes later...my son will crawl, and still gets hair on him. I HATE IT! I told my husband no more dogs after this. GRRR...and we do try to brush frequently. It's just so annoying...not to mention when they drink, they walk and leave a path of water...just venting, sorry!
