Seeking a Vacuum That Can Get Pet Hair Out of Carpet

Hi - I am interested in replacing my existing vacuum with one that works well on pet hair. We have several rugs and carpets and a very sheddy labrador retriever. The hair can really stick to the rugs well. Can anyone recommend a good brand/model? Thanks!

I just bought a Dyson and I love it! They are expensive, but you can use the 20% off coupon at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

I love this one! works for us :)

We use a Kenmore Progressive with Direct Drive. It is AWESOME. And best of all, it is very reasonably priced. Consumer Reports rated it the highest in their floor tests, even better than Dyson and Kirby, and rated it as a best buy as well. You can get them at Sears. It also uses HEPA bags, which is nice when dealing with pet hair and other allergens.

The furminator brush (got ours at petco for $40) and a dyson. We have a german shepard puppy and two chihuahua/terriers and and I can not rave enough about the dyson! My brother has a golden retriever though you would never know it by his house, there is never hair anywhere thanks to the furminator and the dyson!

Okay L., I have the best vacuum possible. It's a Kirby and it is the best vacuum in the whole world. I have had my Kirby since 1994 and it stills gets up all the pet hair. I have had a retriever mix, german shepherd (wow that was a lot of hair) and now a choc. lab. I never have problems with dog hair. It has the easiest attachments for tile or carpet. It's a little on the spendy side, but it was sooooo worth it. I have had it overhauled once since 1994 that was $100. and I have it serviced every couple of years for $19.95. It's been the most reliable vacuum I have every owned. The first 5 years my husband and I were married we went through 3 vacuums. Ridiculous!!!
We have never had to make another purchase again. You will be amazed at how well it works. Hope this helps!!!

I have the eureka capture...never ceases to amaze me how much pet hair it picks up. I love it.

I have a Dyson that I've owned for a couple years. It does a great job with our shedding dog. They are expensive... but should last. I think they even have a special model for pet hair.

Me, too. I think my lab sheds enough for a new dog at least once a week!

I love my Dyson Ball (not the animal version). We have a short haired German Shepherd Mix dog, and 2 small kids who make all kinds of messes EVERYWHERE.

The attachments that already come with the vacuum get about 95% of the dog hair on my couches in one sweep. LOVE IT!

Wait for them to go on sale at Amazon.com. I got mine for $400 with free shipping.

Hi,
I have a Bissell healthy home vacuum with a "hepa" filter. (filtratration for cleaner indoor air.)
It works really, really well. It is bagless, so you really see the dirt and dander that it sucks up. We were totally amazed at what it picks up out of our carpet, and a bit grossed out, too. We love our doggy, but her shedding is so bad. We take the barrel outside to empty it in a bag every time we vacuum.
Good luck,
B.

I got a Roomba last year and love it! It does a great job on short pet hair (we have a lab/dane mix), don't know about longer hairs. It does the main part of our house daily and then I just touch up other rooms as needed. There are some good reviews on Amazon that give an accurate protrayal of the vacuum. I do need to clean out the brushes and bin regularly, but it is much easier than vacuuming daily! We set it to go while we are out and it does a pretty good transition from our carpeted area to the tiled kitchen/dining room, also alleviating the need to sweep regularly.

-M.
