my little brother received a turkey at work on Friday afternoon. it is not frozen.
will it last in the refrigerator until Thursday?
we aren't sure if it was orginally frozen and then thawed, or if its a fresh never frozen one. (all the employees got one, and we are just guessing that it was a place like Gordon Foods?)
can he throw it in the freezer for a day or 2 and then thaw it again?

(he calls big sis with questions like this, and this time...I have no idea! LOL)

What can I do next?

You have some reading to do. Everything you need to know should be on the packaging. With what you have presented here we have no way of knowing.

My mom says to tell you that the turkey should have a date on it. Use by such-and-such. If it's within the date, then it's okay to use. But don't put it back in the freezer. Depending on the size, it takes several days for it to thaw. Instead, put it in the coldest part of the refrigerator. (That's the top shelf in my mom's frig, according to the refrigerator repairman.)

I'm with my mom, and happy to relay her turkey advice!

I purchased mine last week at Whole Foods. It was not frozen. I asked them at the meat counter and they shared that there was an expiration date of after Thanksgiving so they assured me that it was fine to buy it then. If you are looking for a way to cook your turkey, check out Alton Brown's recipe for a brined turkey, http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/good-eats-... . You basically make a salt water and wine liquid with spices to 'soak' the turkey in overnight. I use a 5 gallon contractors bucket to soak mine. You can purchase those at Ace Hardware or at Home Depot. It was the most moist turkey I've ever had, I and must confess my mom is the best cook ever.

Happy Thanksgiving. D.

I agree that you should not freeze it. It takes a very long time for those puppies to thaw. Enjoy your turkey.

Took mine out of the freezer last Friday to defrost since it takes a few days so yours should be fine if kept refrigerated...

Don't freeze it! It takes about 3 days to thaw it out anyways, so he's better off to just stick it in the fridge and leave it, it should be just fine.
enjoy!
