Help, Florida Moms! Window - What Kind Is This & How to Fix?

Hi!

Single mom, living in a rental. We have a window with one broken pane that I need to fix before I move out. However, I can't find the name of this type of window to find more specific instructions on pane replacement. I'm not afraid of a little DIY, if it can be done.

Here's a photo: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2311/2438281793_8cd###-###...

Any ideas would be great!

Thanks,
M.

Does anyone know what this type of window is officially called (other than "old", or "Florida", which is what I've been googling, with no success!)

Updated to add: I set the photo to "public" (sorry, blonde moment) - it doesn't push out, it just pushes straight up. It's two horizontal rectangular panes in the bottom, and two in the top - the pane looks like it sits right in the frame and could be siliconed in, but I have no idea how to get it in. It doesn't look like it has any parts that are removeable. I'm afraid to fully break the pane to get the pieces out without knowing how to set something back in. Thanks for any help...:)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

You guys rock! I'll head over to Collier over the weekend.

THANK YOU!!!!

:)

This looks like it's a double-hung window. let me know if you'll need someone to fix this. My hubby's friend works with glass and mirror and could probably fix this for you inexpensively.

in the hollywood area: call Seminole Glass on Johnson ST

I could not open the picture. If it's one of those that open out when you turn the lever it's a jalousie window. You can remove the pane that is broken and take it frame and all to your local Ace Hardware and they will put another pane in. I had that happen and only got it fixed because I happened to be at Ace buying something else and I asked one of the employees. They also redo the screens if the frame is not broken or bent. It did not cost much, and being a single mom myself I understand how hard it can be.

I how this helps :)

Hi M.! I too live in Florida(south) and these widows are the old windows that are everywhere. Unfortunately, I don't know the official name. I currently live in my mom's home and we have those windows with one pane broken. My dad went to home depot and they stated that you can't just replace the pane...u have to replace the entire window. BUMMER! :( Although, probably not the response you wanted...I hope this helps. Who wants to replace an entire window...worse part is our window is not a standard size so has to be ordered. I would suggest to measure the window and take the photo of the window to home depot.

If you do get anything about pane replacement please let me know...

it's probably a Jalousie Window, that's what most old Florida homes have
this place is in pompano. you might try googling some other places. just replacing the glass should't cost much

I think this are called Jalosy windows. I don't think I'm spelling this correctly, but you say it like jealousy but with an "A". Good luck! Actually, I read your request again and if they don't roll out, then I'm not sure that's what they are... Sorry!

It's called a jalousie window.

Yes, that's single hung window - If you are in ft. laud., then i recommend going to Collier True Value Hardware on 45th st. just west of US1 - it's on the south side of 45th about 2 blocks down. They have a window repair dept. in the back of the store - extremely nice people and very reasonable. Their number is ###-###-#### (we've used them for repairs in our rental units). If all else fails, call home depot. Good luck.
