I have a question, maybe someone can help... im 21, im a little over 3 months pregnant right now with my 1st.. i know cramps during the first two months are normal, and i was told if they got so bad i was doubled over or couldnt breath right that i should go to the ER. Well last night i was out for a walk and i started getting mild cramps. i ignored them for a bit and they went away. then out of nowhere they came back, but so bad i kind of collapsed, and couldnt get up or move for 5-10 minutes. i kind of started to panic so when i could get up, i went straight home and called the hospital to see what i should do. they said it wasnt an emergency since i wasnt bleeding and thered be nothing they could do if i went in, so to try to sleep and drink plenty of fluids.

i have work tonight, which is 8-9 hours of standing, and im worried itll happen again. my next doctors appt isnt until the 21st...

does anyone know what this is or what i should do about it?? should i call out of work or go in and leave if it happens again??? i would really appreciate the help!! thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

After posting that i called the doctor, but because im a new patient and havent been seen yet other than for a preg test, they refused to give me a sooner appointment. when i told her what happened she said i needed to go to the ER last night, so i let her know that the woman who answered the phone told me not to. i dont know, im really confused now. so im still stuck waiting until the 21st, im going into work, if it happens again ill leave and go home. now im thinking about going to my family doctor, maybe he can pull some strings and get me in. =/

Don't wait!!! Try to see a different doctor ASAP or go back to the ER next time it happens. Go to a different hospital if you have to, and demand blood tests and an ultrasound. Just because you're not bleeding doesn't mean there isn't anything going on.

I discovered I had a large ovarian cyst the last time I was pregnant. The pain was terrible and I wasn't bleeding either.

It could be just growing pains or implantation pains (when the embryo actually attaches itself to the lining of your uterus). I remember my OB telling me that women who are thin tend to feel more "crampy" pains as pregnancy progresses because there is less room for the baby to grow...except out! So it can be uncomfortable and even painful as the muscles and ligament stretch to accommodate that beautiful baby growing inside you. :)

Also, try drinking LOTS of water and put your feet as often as possible. I was constantly having contractions at the end of my pregnancy (I even sent myself into pre-term labor!) because I wasn't drinking enough water and I was getting dehydrated. When you dehydrate it makes your uterus more sensitive and can start cramps/contractions. Try this: my OB told me that you should drink so much water that when you go pee it should appear clear as water in the toilet (no yellow...LOL).

Hope this helps...Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I got those cramps too. They were so bad I couldn't speak.
I did go to the OB, though, who mainly offered reassurance that they were "round ligament" pains.
When you are pregnant, every pain should be examined in my opinion. Especially when it is your first baby and you don't know what is going on.
If our bodies react the same way to pregnancy, then you will feel that same pain when it is time to give birth.
I felt that SAME "cramping" the day of an OB appt and gave birth two days later.

Next time it happens you should go right to the emergency room. Your doctor has told you that you should have gone when it happened so if it happens again you should definitely go. It doesn't hurt to be safe. Pain that makes you collapse is definitely something you should have checked out. Otherwise try to take breaks at work and put your feet up whenever you can. I used to go in the bathroom and sit for 5 minutes..I know it's not the best place but at least you are getting a break. Also, drink lots and lots of water. Are you getting enough salt? Pregnant women need a moderate amount of iodized salt. Cramping can sometimes be a symptom of low levels of salt or calcium. Talk to your doctor's office about this. You do not need to wait to be seen..any problems just go to the emergency room..no need to call, just go. The nurse is not a doctor..don't take her word for it. A nurse in the emergency room told my sister that she wasn't having a miscarriage (she was bleeding and had slight cramping) and a few days later she did. It couldn't have been stopped but that's not the point...she got my sister's hopes up and then she was crushed. Talk to a doctor. I hope they can help with the pain. If you start bleeding with the cramping you should definitely call your doctor or go to the emergency room. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

I had all kinds of cramps and twinges. I went to the hospital for a lot of them, just to be sure. Its better to go and get checked than stay home(worry) and let a mild problem become severe. Odds are you and the baby are just fine and these are those implementation cramps or streching cramps, but I say if you are worried, that is not good for you(or baby) and its better for you to get checked out and have that peace of mind that all is well for you and your precious baby. You're both in my prayers.

I would definitely call your OB/GYN ASAP and talk to a nurse about your cramps. They may want to see you.

Follow your instincts and call your OB's office anytime you have questions or doubt.

I wish you lots of luck.

Definitely have your primary doctor call the OB. I have done this with other specialists and decreased the amount of time I have had to wait by more than half. Best wishes for you and your baby!

E.,
I would go to the ER anyway. If you go then they have to examine you and they'll do an ultrasound just to be sure everything is okay. If nothing else, then it's at least worth the piece of mind in my opinion! Trust your instincts above all else.
Good luck!

I'd call your doctor and see what they say. (I'm assuming that it wasn't your doctor that you spoke to when you called the hospital but even if it was it doesn't hurt to find out if you should still take it easy) I have no idea what I'd do in that situation outside of that

Second baby I can understand cramps because I had ligament pain with my son and it hurt terribly. First baby-I'd call and get in to see your ob/gyn just to be on the safe side.
Good luck.

E., I would really sugest visiting the ER to get blood work and an ultrasound to see if the pregnancy is in fact viable. Don't mean to scare you but I think you should get it checked out to be on the "safe side". On the bright side, it could just be that the fetus is implanitng itself still into your unterine wall and that may be the cramping pain you feel. Either way I would get it checked out.
