I Have Terrible Cramps
Hi Moms-
I found out i was pregnant about a week ago and since about a week from before i found out i was pregnant i have had cramps. (so i assumed i was going to start my period) anyways they have been pretty light and just a little annoying but today they are really bad. Is that normal? The doctor said i may be a little crampy it settles into my uterus but today its just flat out rediculously painful. Please tell me anything you can about this. I haven't had any bleeding at all just cramps.
Thanks in advance. You moms are the best!
So What Happened?™
My cramps became unbearable yesterday and I ended up going to the ER. There they did an ultrasound and saw that on both of my ovaries were big cysts. That is what is causing my pain. They said as the placentas develope the cysts will get smaller and eventually go away on their own. and that by week 12 they should be completly gone. And Yes I did say placents. There are two babies in there!!! I'm so excited I don't hardly believe it!
Thank you moms for all of your advice and guidence. You are the best!!

I was crampy both times when I was first pregnant. But if they are really bad I would probably look into more. Good luck!

I had bad cramps early in my pregnancy and I talked to the doctor and she wanted me to go the ER...(hospital which I was going to deliver/ maternity ward) All it was was dehydration. Make sure you drink lots of water. That was my first pregnancy...with my second baby I had the same problem but they wanted me to be checked out anyways because I was a high risk pregnancy with other complications...I drank lots of water all morning and still was cramping so when I went in they told me I was actually having contrations (in my first trimester) NOT GOOD...the cramping I was having was actually contractions so they gave me a shot and the cramping calmed down and with the rest of my pregnany...those cramps were nothing to worry about. Just becareful and drink lots of water and if they continue...time how long so when you call your doc you can tell them how long...good luck

Hi D.,
Yes, cramping is normal. I had mild to moderate cramping the first tri mester. My OBGYN explained to me that it's because of the baby attatching to the uterine wall. If you have severe cramping or bleeding call your OB right away. There is a chance that you may have a tubal pregnancy in which the cramping is an indication. Check with your OB to make sure the baby is in the right area. The cramping sensation is a good sign when the baby is in the uterus. I hope this has been of some help. Concradulations and good luck with your pregnancy!

I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and I never experienced cramping with my others as I did with this one.I was for sure thinking i'm only late and will begin my period soon.Took a test and positive.Called in to speak to the nurese and she said the same thing it was due to the implantation onto the uterus.I called back and then they ordered a sonogram and an HCG level blood test to make sure I wasn't miscarrying. All was good it was painful but as long as there is no bleeding way it out relax take a warm shower and keep your lifting to a min. it all helped and a few weeks later you'll feel nothing. But as baby grows now thats a different story.

I agree that you might want to call your doc for an early ultrasound, if the cramps are getting worse, to rule out a tubal pregnancy, but usually they are normal.
I was SURE I was getting my period when I was in early preg. with my daughter (before I knew). The cramps were really bad (I often get bad cramps) and I was even spotting. Even at that point the preg. test was negative! A few days later, it was still going on, so I rechecked and POSITIVE! I can't remember how long the cramps lasted...but whew...between those and my REALLY sore BBs, I didn't know what hit me! I had an uncomplicated preg. and a beautiful baby girl.
Best to you!

I would make an appt with your DR get an ultrasound done, it could be in your tubes. Just better to be safe than sorry. It could be something totally not due to the pregnancy since you said you found out before you knew you were pregnant. I had some cramping when I was pregnant along time ago and they did an ultrasound and it was growing in the uterus but a month later I had a miscarriage. They called it a missed miscarriage, the baby just never grew. Dont mean to scare you but just have it done for piece of mind

I wouldn't worry unless you start bleeding. It is even a little normal to spot when you are pregnant, but i miscarried when I was having a lot of cramping and bleeding. So, if you start bleeding or spotting, I would recommend that you go to your OBGYN, or the ER.
