Hi M.,

I don't know this for absolute sure, but I'm pretty sure there is not one. Since the thyroid produces hormones that regulate your body and metabolism, you just need that hormone...I have had hypothyroidism since I was 6 (now almost 30) and am on synthroid for life and it works really well...I just don't think you can find that hormone in any "non-medicinal" form. I encourage you (or whoever)not to be scared of it, though, and if you are on it, stick to the brand name, not generic, form as the generic form is definitely inferior (I had problems regulating mine on generic).

Hi M.,
I have grave's disease (hyperthyroidism). I don't know your symptoms but my level went up to 148 and my doc. told me normal levels are between 0.4-5 so mine was wayy up there. i went from normal 102 lbs down to 85. i couldn't sleep from heart palpitations, depression, moody angry for no reason. my first radioactive iodine treatment failed, i still had grave's disease, 9 months later i went through another treatment and this time seems to be working, my level is down to 16 and i am on synthroid pills and will be for the rest of my life. basically they're two ways of treating hyperthyroidism; one is taking pills second is the iodine treatment. i tried the first option and did not work for me. though if you have hyperthyroidism you need to have it corrected only becasuse of all the sypmtoms including bulging eyes. i did not do it quite on time and now i need to be seeing an eye doctor as my eyes have gotten puffy (fluid) and my vision has been affected. i hope this info helps you a bit to mke a decision. as for natural ways of having this corrected there really are none.
good luck
V.

Hi M.,
One great way is Yoga. Some of the poses are great for regulating the thyroid and other glands and organs.
Another terrific way if you want to go the natural route is MonaVie. It is a juice made from 19 fruits including the acai berry from the Amazon. It has amazing healing properties that many people have found to help regulate Graves disease, thyroid problems, ADD, ADHD, MS, diabetes, depression, allergies, and many more.
Please check this website and don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions or concerns!

M.,

The thyroid is a very sensitive and very important gland. Are you're trying to regulate your thyroid for weight control or do you have other symptoms? In either case, you really need to see an endocrinologist and get bloodwork done. That's the ONLY way to determine your hormone levels.

I've been taking thyroid replacement tablets over 45 years and I've had the same experience as Emily with generics.

Thyroid doses are very tiny (typically 1/100th of a milligram) so each tablet must be very precise. Generic thyroid dosages are not always reliable and any slight variation will give weird blood levels. I'll only take the brand name thyroid products myself and I'm a pharmacist. You do not want to mess around with natural or herbal remedies.

BTW- Other types of generic drugs are usually OK, but not thyroid IMHO. ;D

I take kelp and other vitamins/minerals. It really depends on the individual what you should take.
