Hi Moms,

Our 1 month old son has been great, my last request was because he would not sleep in his crib or bassinet. He is now sleeping in his crib for the past 2.5 weeks. Now as of last week he is either wide awake or won't want to be put down between the 10pm feeding and the 1am feeding. My husband usually takes that shift by holding him. When he finally falls asleep he puts him down in his crib, he will sleep for any where from 20-30mins. He than wakes up crying. We are at our wits end because as soon as I feed him at 1ish he will sleep in his crib for 4 hours. We just do not understand or know how to keep him down between 11pm and 1pm. We have tired everything swaddle, white noise, blanket with my smell. He will be sound asleep on my husband and an hour after he is asleep he transfer him and won't stay asleep.

Anyone have any suggestions or if this has happened to you.

Thank you,
L.

Sounds like day/night confusion. It shall pass. Just try keeping shades open and play music when you want her awake and total dark quiet at bedtime. Gradually her sleep times will adjust.
Sorry you are awake when you want to sleep!

Maybe he is still hungry. Try giving him a little more at 10:00. This happened with my son and once I gave him a little more milk he was fine.

Have you tried giving him a warm bath, just washcloth with no soap. That helped my little girl.

Make sure he stays awake in the evening, He needs to get used to sleeping a long time at night. Lots of babies get their days and night mixed up.

We had the same problem with my son. 11 pm - 1 am he yelled & fussed. We tried everything at about 2 months we started training him to sleep at night. At 10 pm we would turn the lights down and rock him. Took a couple of weeks but shortly after he started sleeping from midnight to 7am. It just takes time for them to understand and adjust to day being day and night. Your baby will get the hang of it soon enough. Best wishes!

I don't have this experience, but just a thought. My son began sleeping straight through the night very early. Sleeping 6-7 hours at 3 weeks and 10 hours straight at 6 weeks. However, he cluster fed between in the evening 6-9 PM... fed every hour... it was like he was gearing up for the night. (he did this himself...) Could it be that he is still hungry or not getting enough at that feeding or that feeding more in the early evening might help??

he's only one month old--cut him some slack! I guess try keeping him up more during the evening hours or making sure he has enough food in his tummy....are you swaddling him? Those babies LOVE to be swaddled. Good luck.

Don't give up on the swaddling...keep doing it until month 3, although my daughter slept much better swaddled past 6 months at night time. Also, maybe your baby might have a mild case of reflux, which is most uncomfortable at night when they are flat on their backs. You can try propping up the head end of the crib by an inch or two with some phone books under 2 legs of the crib (it's much safer than trying to prop up your baby with something inside the crib).

Hi L.-

Sounds to me that you've thought of the basics. Could it be that your son just loves the extra 'Daddy time'? (:

Hey, have you tried gas drops. I used to give my son Mylecon before he went to sleep and it worked.

Hi L.,
He may have reflux. My son is now 3 1/2 months old. When he was around that age he would sleep for longer periods at night, but during the day. During the day, he'd only do 20 - 30 mins. at a time. He needed to be in the upright position, otherwise he was in pain. I think he slept better at night because he was so exhausted. He still needs to be upright for at least 30 mins. after a feeding. Talk to your doctor. Every baby's different, but some need extra cuddles in the evening. Good luck. This too shall pass :o)
