Heel Pain - Bloomington,IN
hi moms... every time i step on my heel it feels like i'm stepping on a little pebble or something. there is a blister-like callous there... i'm wondering what i should do about it? i thought about trying to pop/drain the blister or get the rock out if there is something in there, or scrubbing it with a pumice stone............ but the last thing i want to do is make it worse... any idea what it is or how i can treat it? i'm nursing so i don't want to take pain meds... are there any topical things i can put on it?

Hi M.,
I sounds like a plantar's wart to me. I have had those and what you are describing sounds familiar. If it is, there may be some over the counter wart medicine for that type of wart. Just a thought, I hope it gets better soon!

Try a drawing salve. Bag Balm usually works....bandage over it and try not to put weight on your heel for a day or two. If it's a splinter this may help. If not I don't think draining it would hurt. (no pun intended!) Could it be a Planters wart? They usually go away in time or a Podiatrist could take care of it at any time. Hope this helps.

You need to go to Podiatrist. It could be a heel spur or a type of wart. Meanwhile, get some squishy shoe inserts to take the pressure off.

I had the same thing before and it turned out to be a plantar's wart. You may want to show it to your doctor next time you are in the office. There usually is a simple home procedure you can do to get rid of it and it won't interfere with breast feeding. Good luck.

It may be a heal spur. Those are very painful.
Worse when you first get up better on carpet than on hard floors. It could also be a planters wart.
google or bing search for ideas on how to ease the pain.

try getting a pepsi bottle fill with water and freeze then put on floor and roll under your foot see if this eases the pain - a lady told me about this once for foot pain and said it helped. It's worth a try :)

It sounds to me like a plantar wart. (Hard callous-like spot that you cannot rub off with pumice stone- it goes deeper than that.) You will probably have to see a podiatrist. They can do acid treatment, which burns off a layer at a time, you have to keep going back every week, but it doesn't hurt much; you can get it cut out or frozen off, both of which hurt more for a week or two, but then it's GONE. I have had many of these over the years and now thankfully am done with them. I haven't had any in over 5 years. If you notice it getting bigger, if it's more bothersome, or if you notice new little ones- you really need to see a podiatrist to get plantar warts taken care of.

I would go to your primary care Doctor and have him/her check it out. You probably cut your heel and got something embedded in there. It may need to be lanced and drained to find what that real problem is, the doctor can use a local to numb you and it should not affect your breast milk. I had a piece of broken glass in my heel for 3 months before I finally had it removed, talk about pain.
