Hi There.
I was holding my 5.5 month old daughter this morning and I found a small lump just to the left of her left nipple. I have never noticed it before, and I'm always playing with her so I feel like it just came up. I called the pediatrician this morning and they told me that if it didn't go away by Monday than I should bring her in. Has anyone else had the same thing happened and turned out to be nothing? I'm trying not to be all worried about it since I don't know anything yet, but I can't help it. I'm hoping that maybe it is just a swollen gland or something. Any ideas?
Thank you all SO much for your responses! You were all a huge help, and I found lots of comfort in knowing that it's not uncommon for things like this to happen. I ended up taking my little girl to the doctor's yesterday evening, and they said what many of you already told me...that it was hormone related. Since I am breastfeeding her, it's likely that they were transferred to her this way. The doctor also told me that it can take awhile before it goes away, and as long as it doesn't get any bigger, then there is no need to worry! I felt so much better after taking her and learning for sure what it was. Thank you all again, I really appreciate all of your help! :)
My sister just went through the same thing with her 15 month old daughter. The doctor said it was breast buds. But what she said could cause them was lavender. A LOT of baby products have lavender in them. Once my sister stopped using lavender cream and bath wash on her they went away. I never would guessed lavender can do that since it is in so many products for babies. Thought this would be helpful advice!!
The same thing happened to my daughter...it was fluid that built up in her duct. it eventually went away..but it was quite some time. They just informed me to keep an eye on it so it didn't get bigger- if it did to make another appointment and they would take the next step...which I am glad to say I don't know what that is because I never got there..lol...GOOD LUCK- hopefully you will have the same outcome as I did..
I have heard this might be her Mammary Gland...but I would get it checked out for reassurance! Good Luck!
my son had a lump behind his ear and it turned out to be nothing. He often scratched the area due to eczema and it 'flared' the lymph node area causing the bump. It went away after a week or two. I would still have your daughters lump checked out regardless.

I found a lump on my daughter's side when she was around two. It's a lypoma which is a fatty deposit that is totally unharmful. So, that's a distinct possibility as to what it is but obviously you should have it checked. Try not to worry too much in the mean time!

My daughter had this. What the pediatrician said was that it was from the hormones of pregnancy. Hope this helps!

We noticed a lump at my 14 month olds 3 month check up and our pediatrician actually said it's her breast bud and we were shocked thinking how could it be she is only 3 months but he said they actually can develop them then. Nothing to worry about, completely normal and it actually has gone down since we notied it. Hopefully this is the same with your little one. :)
My daughter had this. We noticed it at about 4.5 months - it was under her left nipple, smooth, round, about the size of a pea. We asked several of the pediatricians (though only one felt it) at our practice, and they each said it is not uncommon, is due to hormones (but even formula fed babies get them), is nothing to worry about, and eventually goes away. They said it takes months. Now, about three months later, it is much smaller, but not quite gone yet.

My husband cut a hole in our 9 month olds Binky.Safely.
My daughter just realized it was not doing anything for her so she just no longer took it.

Not sure if it is the same, but when my son was 6 or 7 months, I found a little lump in the back of his neck, towards the side. It turned out to be a swollen gland and I still notice it coming and going at different times and he's 3 1/2 now. I imagine that would be a logical gland spot on your daughter. Just remember, you did the right thing by calling the dr. and following through if they want you too.

My little girl also developed a lump beneath her right breast as an infant. The doctor checked it out each time we went in for well-baby visits, but always commented that, as long as it didn't grow, it would go away on its own. Sure enough it did. It apparently did so very gradually as it was imperceivable, and she has nevr had any apparent discomfort.

I just wanted to let you know that I think you should go get your child looked at. I don't want to scare you, but when my first child was born a similar thing happened to me. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Letting the Dr. just check it out is the smart thing to do. Sadly for me my son had cancer and I lost him at 2 1/2 yrs. old. I would hate to see anyone go through what I did. Please go get it checked out.
hi i live in holbrook i raised 5 children and now raising 2 grandchildren . i would not wory about it to much it could bea cyst . and i thing if its not gone in5 days . i would apselutley have it checket out .your doctor should have exray done . and the best hospital for her is new england medical center in boston, i would not let it go moore then 5 days. its bether to take care of it now then later . tybrigitte mello
Hi M., I had the same thing with my daughter about a month and a half ago. I thought my older daughter pinched her boobie. But she said no, mine little one is 16 months, and as she had a regular checkup scheduled about a week from the day I noticed it I waited to mention it until then. My ped. looked at it, and said that it was a little breast tissue that was completely normal, and that it should go away in the next year or two as she loses her baby fat. I was also extremely concerned, but it appears to be nothing to worry about, I really found it odd that it was only under one nipple. You should make your ped. aware at your next appointment, but I wouldn't worry about it meanwhile.
Are you nursing or bottle feeding?
Could be hormones. Not much help but babies have the strangest things just pop up and then they're gone. You did the right thing to contact the MD so there is documentation. Document yourself in a journal what you find what you did and any changes to the situation.
This also happened to my daughter when she was about 8 months old and the doctor said that it was because of my hormones tranferring to her since I was breastfeeding. Having said that, it's always good to get her checked at the doctor if you are worried.
