Have any of you taken this course? Did you get a lot out of it? Did it help you? Share your experiences, please!

I have not take the Dave Ramsey class but my daughter and her husband did in their first year of marriage. They really enjoy the class and still applying things they learned in the class. They have been married for about 2 1/2 years now. I think you will enjoy the class and learn a lot!

Havent done it yet (doubt we will, we're both deaf and wouldn't get enough out of it without interpreters) but we read Total Money Makeover and are waiting for two other books from the library. It's great, and I definitely go along with his idea of paying off and not adding to your debt. (if only Uncle Sam would get on this program too!)

We have not gone through this program but there are a number of people in our church who have and it's changed their lives if they followed it. My husband and I couldn't get our schedules to match the class so we bought one of his books and read it together. While we don't follow it to the word we have followed the spirit of it - not using debt, paying cash, saving more, giving more, etc. Overall it's been very positive and it's servied to reinforce some of our ideas and gave us new ones.

I COULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ENOUGH PEOPLE!!! You will not regret your decision, as my husband and I took this class last fall only 1 month after getting married, and it helped us pay off over $4000 in debt over the 13 week class.

Dave's methods are a saving grace, and his budgeting plan/worksheets have saved my husband and us from having many arguments over money this last year because as dave puts it "if it's not in the budget, it ain't happening!"

I didn't do the University, just the money makeover book and recommend it to EVERYONE! He has a really doable plan and it makes a lot of sense. Take it seriously, and be committed, but don't get down on yourself if you slip for a bit, just get right back on the horse, and change your life!!

My husband and I just finished the FPU class the first of December. It was well worth every penny. We have so far paid off our second car a few months early and paid down our debt around $6000. It is amazing how much money we were wasting. If we can stay on track, we will be debt free except for the 2 mortgages by 1 June. If we stay agressive for another 6 months, we will have the second mortgage paid off. This means that we will be debt free by Christmas next year (except for our home).
My husband and I have also been able to fully purchase Christmas this year with cash. Our 3 children will not notice any difference in Christmas this year. We could have paid off another bill or 2 this month, but we decided that Christmas was worth delaying our payoff plan by 1 month. We are already back on track. I will be payin off another bill this month.
It is amazing. I keep wondering where this money is coming from. We have had what we needed when we needed and not suffered. Yes we do not eat out as often, but that was part of the problem.
I will pray that you are more successful with the program than we were!
p.s. I bought the childrens program for my kids for Christmas.

We've done it, and yes, it literally has changed our lives!! We are debt free except the house (which is now on a 15 year note) and have several months worth of expenses in savings (still working to finish that - we ended up dipping into it a little when I lost my job this summer but we DIDN'T have to rely on debt). Christmas is pretty much paid for and we did it out of cash flow.

The two biggest things are to work together and be accountable to your spouse if you are married, and to stick to the budget. But don't be afraid to adjust the budget from month to month. If you need more for food, budget more. That way you won't be constantly blowing the budget. And even if it's just $5, set aside a little money to blow. That was huge for us.

It's hard work but SOOO worth it. Good luck, you won't be sorry!! Feel free to MM me if you have any specific questions. People can't get me to shut up about Dave Ramsey :-)

We haven't gone through his class but we've read his book, listened to him on the radio, and went to his one-day thing to see him in person. (That last one was what got my husband on board). We use his printable budget worksheets from the Financial Peace Software to do our budget every month. It's the only way we can support a family of soon-to-be 4 kids on one income. The first time we got out of debt using his plan we paid off my student loans and both cars. Then we got off track with a new baby and some serious health problems, but a year or two later "got back on the wagon" and paid off the credit card and finally stopped using them. Only debit cards now and it's great. It's slow going getting our emergency fund fully funded, seems like every time we start to get close something will happen and we'll have to fix the car or something... but I know that if we hadn't been working on the emergency fund something like that would put us back in debt, but since we have some saved it didn't.

I've thought about taking the FPU class someday. Right now there is no time with a new baby on the way but possibly in 6 months or so.

I haven't done the FPU but I picked up his Total Moneymakeover book at the locl library for free. I recommend it to everyone-he is a very smart man and I so wished that I had come across Dave in my teen years! He even has some children's books to help teach our kids about saving money and all sorts of subjects. Thank God I am only 34 and I can start making good money decisions rather than repeating the same stupid mistakes I have made in the past.

LOL we aren't debt free yet, but we are still making strong progress. i can't recommend it enough!

My husband and I have not gone through the class, but I do listen to Dave Ramsey nearly every day. His show is on from 1-4pm on 570am.
He is an amazing inspiration! We used his books, and I am proud to say we are on baby step 7.
My 3 year old loves the Friday show- where he takes a whole bunch of debt free calls! We're debt free- she shouts.
His program works!

Haven't done FPU but would love to. As another mom mentioned, we checked out TMM from the library for free - it is wonderful.

My homeschoolers do his high school curriculum and I have been following along when possible (it's excellent too). I soooo wish I had had this kind of training when I was a teen.

One of the things that impressed me about him was - when I purchased the curriculum online - he does not take credit cards (only debit). The curriculum is an excellent value too (have bought many and wasted some money along the way). Both my sons say it is the best thing they have ever done either in traditional school or homeschooling (they are practical young men!).

He also has a radio show from 2-5 pm, and I think he does a podcast. If you google "Dave Ramsey internet radio" you will come up with web sites with radio stations around the US that broadcast his show at different times (can stream on your computer).

I wonder if FPU would help my husband and I really stay motivated. Be sure to let us know what you think after you go.

Because we have a small child and a weirdo schedule, we decided to do the FPU class via the DVD "At Home" set. We knew we would be missing out on discussions and such, but it was our only option at the time. As of this January, we will have been doing it for 1 year. We are VERY close to being COMPLETELY out of debt. (Even the house.)

I have to say that I was a bit skeptical when we started, but knew we needed to do something, so we gave it a shot. I can't believe how far we have come in a super short amount of time. When I heard all the stories of being completely out of debt in a couple of years, I just didn't believe it. It seemed like the weight loss ads on TV. But here we are, on track to be debt free in a total of about 18 months.

We have had several setbacks and emergencies, but were able to take them in stride due to our new found financial knowledge.

It is a wonderful feeling to have TOTAL control of our money. This course LITERALLY changed our lives!

Not yet! But I want to . My husband and I have VIP tickets to his Kansas City Live Event and I can't wait! I also got both of our brothers his TMMO book from the website for 10 bucks a peice. Even with S&H it's 10 dollars+ cheaper than a bookstore (of course the library is free-but I want them to own it!)!

Let me know how the class turns out!!!

Best thing my husband and I ever did! We did the online courses, and it was life-changing information! My husband and I have different money philosophies, and Dave is so great about making both of them ok! If we can't agree on something, we can now say "What Would Dave Do?" And i love the Christian foundation that he based everything on - very reassuring.

We got all of our debt paid off, including our cars, in 2009 and it was a lifesaver when I was unexpectedly unemployed for 6 months in 2010. This program has added so much to my marriage and my family's financial well-being - truly it's financial peace!

And Dave is enjoyable, fun, funny, i can't say enough good things!!

Yes, yes, and yes. Definately worth your time and effort. It brought my husband and I on the same page. It helped him to start caring regarding the finances and gave hike some education to have real input. I make better choices with my new knowledge and I found the class very encouraging.
