Has Your Husband Said Anything Stupid Lately?

Most of you know I am about 5m pregnant. I stay completely exhausted. I still do everything I did before, I am just WAY more tired! My husband had the nerve to ask me why my eyes were so dark. REALLY? I started to explain to him that our 19mo gets up @7am, I have a million things do around the house, I can't nap(insomnia) so forth and so on. He had a few things to say. I told him it would be nice to be sympathetic and compassionate toward me once in awhile. I did not ask him to help me with anything but just emotionally support me as in "how was your day?, Can I do anything?" Then the thing that really got under my skin... his reply"I don't know why you are complaining about being tired and hurting. Eve ate the apple and that is your punishment. Woman carry babies all the time." I almost lost it!!! Eve ate the apple not me and I don't think of carrying our baby as a punishment!!! I honestly had to walk away. I could have punched him straight in the face. Instead I went to the bathroom to have myself a cry. How could he be so inconsiderate? So.. has your husband say something that made you want to punch his face in?

What can I do next?

Is the sun shining? Is the moon up? Well, then yes...

Sorry! Couldn't help myself! However if he had given me that line about Eve, I would probably have made the 11 o'clock news -maybe even CNN!

Yep..... When I was pregnant with #3 (I don't remember how far along I was... whether it was early in the pregnancy or later, when I wasn't sleeping very well), the rule for the little ones (3 1/2 and 2), was they couldn't get out of bed in the morning until an adult got up...

So, they are in there calliing, "mommy, mommy" ..... nothing wrong, just wanting to wake us up..... I was trying to ignore it and go back to sleep, and hubby said, "Why don't you just get up? All they want is some breakfast!"

And... couldn't HE have been the one to get up for a change, and let ME sleep in? I really wasn't sleeping well, and was still getting up in the middle of the night with the youngest......

Nooooooo............ that's mommy's job!

One time last year when I was in a particular busy time in the daycare I was up all day and night with babies overnight, letting kids in and out at all hours AND I was suffering from a sprained ankle and still recovering from the last time I put my back out. So he left in the morning for work at 7:30 am and I was sitting on the couch waiting for the next child to wake up or come to the door. Later on that night he comes in at 9PM and I was on the couch trying to doze while waiting for kids to go home. I had just put the kids down and shut out all the lights. My bonehead husband said, "That's where you were when I left. Did you ever get up today?"!

My first thought - get out of that bathroom and go punch him! Now after I realize that he is a MAN, I calm down and think of ways to approach him a bit less violently and in a way he will understand. I think you need to write down all that you do each day by yourself, without his help and show him, cause trust me, men do not get it. Then explain that the 20-30 pounds you gain during pregnancy makes doing everything harder! Maybe take him with you to the next OB appointment and let your doctor explain to him why you are tired and are uncomfortable and hurting. If he doesn't get it then, punch him in the face! Good luck! :)

I'm sorry, BUT I WOULD HAVE TOLD OFF YOUR HUSBAND ROYAL!

What a jerk!
Sorry.
He pisses me off.
I would have, punched him for you.
And he would have, never said such a moronic thing, again.

... unless your Husband suddenly becomes more grown-up, sounds like a bumpy ride. Does he EVER, even help in the house or for you or with the kids?
He sounds, so, not helpful at all.
Inconsiderate, is a nice way to put it.
I am sure this is not the first time.

I've said it for years--they don't get it. It's not the same for men. Ignore him and get your chick-support here!

wow...does he think this is the 14th century or something? I would have said something really bitchy. Then I would make sure that the next time he needed ibuprofen to let him know that he could not have any because it had not been invented yet because, after all, he was living in medieval times.
What a jerk.

I worked all day, packed my suitcase and the next morning I carried my suitcase to the car, across the parking lot and into the elevator an older gentleman told my husband he should be carrying my suitcase since I was getting ready to give birth to our daughter by c-section. He looked at the gentleman and said she's not hurt she's pregnant. I wanted to knock the hell out of him.

This is not the only stupid stuff he says, it is an everyday thing and he wonders why I call him an idiot.

Yes, he does. All the time. I am usually hurt by it too. For some reason, he has a way of making me feel like I am being oversensitive and "hormonal." I just get tired of trying to explain how sick and tired I feel from pregnancy. Would it be so hard for him to understand or at least pretend to? Usually, I just give up trying to explain and do things myself and get more tired. Sorry hun.

Hi N....so sorry to hear this:( Yes, my husband told me when I was over 9 months pregnant that I looked like a short, fat, old man! Then, he sat there and snickered while I hobble around. Also, when I was three months pregnant and throwing he told me to stop throwing up on his nice lawn! They're all jerks! Take a nice nap.

That was a completely boneheaded thing to say.

I wouldn't say one word to him until he apologizes sincerely and acknowledges that he could certainly do plenty to help instead of hurt. For starters, HE can get up with the baby tomorrow morning at 7am.

I'm sorry, N.. =(

My mom is dealing with breast cancer. She was told that she needed to have chemo in case the cancer had spread. My husbands response? "Well is she doesn't have cancer anywhere else, she will after the chemo." Yeah, really not what I wanted to hear.
I told him to shut the hell up, I needed support not a lecture on how bad he thought chemo was. Gah, I think I need chocolate just thinking about it.

Yes, almost daily. Depending on how tired I am, sometimes I get angry and other times I just ignore it. He's told me before he has no empathy and that he does not understand why women cry over emotions. He does help with our baby but usually, I am the one running around the house on the weekends trying to get the house clean during nap time while he sits on the couch and catches up on TV watching. I really can't believe your husband actually said the comment about Eve though. When something stupid like that comes out of my husband's mouth, I usually go to the bathroom and cry too. I'm sorry.
