Has Anyone Given Birth at Arlington Memorial Hospital Within the Last Year?

I am scheduled to give birth in about a month at Arlington Memorial Hospital. I just got a letter in the mail that has calculated what they think I will owe if it is a natural child birth. AMH is asking that I pay this NOW, as a deposit, before the birth of my baby. I don't want to pay anything for services not rendered. They said this is their new policy. I thought deposits were for apartments and cars, not babies. If anyone else has experienced this, let me know. Can I just wait to pay until I actually give birth?

What can I do next?

Arlington Memorial is on Randol Mill & Cooper, not Mayfield & Matlock (That's Medical Center of Arlington.) I gave birth at MCA & they did not require a deposit, although my deductible had already been met. I got the bills the next month.

I'm wondering why this is not something they bill to your insurance company? Unless it's because ins. companies won't pay for services until they are rendered. I'd call your ins. co and talk with them about the situation. They should be able to give you some guidance. I gave birth in FL years ago and we were military so it cost us $12 because we requested a private room - everything else was paid for by the ins. company after the birth.

What happens if you end up not giving birth there? I mean, kids do come early and if you are somewhere else when the baby is ready to come, do they give you a refund on this deposit?

Please keep us posted as this is definitely info mom's need to know.

Thanks

I gave birth to twins 2 years ago.at Arlington memorial Hospital. Are you talking about the one on Mayfield and Matlock??? if so I had no insurance at the time I registered. I was scheduled for a c-section and yes they wanted part of the money up front. This hospital has a very good labor and delivery I did not pay anything before I had my twins. If you register and go when you are ready they can not turn you away. You will be billed however after the baby comes. I know they make it seem as though your putting a down payment on a car. It sounds terrible.I would just go and have your baby then let them bill you.Good-luck and congrats. The nurses are great.

I had all four of my babies there! I did pay 200.00 deductable before I gave birth but I think it was worth it! Then I don't have the stress afterwards and The hospital is well worth it! I loved every Nurse and doctor I had there!

All four babies and myself were well taken care of!

Sadly, I don't think this is that off the mark anymore. Most hospitals want prepayment or payment when services are rendered these days. When I gave birth down the road at Med Ctr Arl, they pushed me to the billing center in my wheelchair on the way to the car and wanted payment right then. How tacky is that???
BTW, I gave birth at Arl Mem the first time. I wasn't thrilled with all the student nurses around me (3 at delivery, 2 reg nurses and my ob). So if that makes you uncomfortable, be sure to tell them first thing.

I have not given birth in the last year, but also received the same letter when my daughter was born in July 2005. We went ahead and paid because of the flex spending option that we had. All we received after we went home was an intemized bill. We actually got some of our money back, because they had over esitmated. I suppose that you could wait to pay it. I don't see how they could refuse you when you walk in there in labor. I know that I did not give you much info, but I hope it helped.

ok- I will add my 2 cents in too. I had my baby at Arlington Memorial about 1 1/2 yr ago. We did had insurance but we had a $500 deductable. Upon registration at the hospital in the billing department they said I could pay all at once or 3 installments 1 each month. That was much easier. But are baby came almost 2 mo early. I didn't have any problem at the hospital. We received a bill for the last payment after we got out. They seem to work with you, and nothing was said during my stay. We just went right in to have the baby by c-sectoin and the staff was very friendly, and let my 2 yr old come see me.

Thats really strange! I just gave birth there about 7 mo ago. I didn't have pay anything before delivery. I got a bill in the mail the following month (along with 10 other bills!!!!)
I had a really good experience there. I didn't have any student nurses/dr. I had two great nurses (i was admitted at 11am, got a new nurse at 6pm) I wasn't too thrilled with the night nurses, but you don't see them much- or remember them coming in 4x a night!
Congrats and good luck
