Has Anyone Ever Had a Sharp Pain in Upper Abdomen??

Last night I sneezed and a sharp tearing pain happened right above my belly button. Almost like a pulled muscle feeling. I am 34 weeks pregnant and I know they gain a lot of weight in the last few weeks. Do you think I stretched a muscle or something too far?
I'm not bleeding or anything and my baby still moves around like normal. Should I be concerned?

What can I do next?

Its normal...Because your body has stretched so quickly, your muscles/skin/nerves and such react sometime...I used to have that happen to me alot when i sneezed, or it would be under my stomach, right abut my thigh..mention it to your OB at you next appt., but it isnt anything to be concerned about...:) *hugz* and congrats!

Is it still hurting or sore? Have you felt smaller pains in the same area? When in doubt, call the doctor. More than likely it's probably nothing but its better to be safe. I fractured a rib from coughing excessively hard when I was sick one month (not during a pregnancy). Laughing, sneezing, etc...all that hurt. The sneezing felt similar to what you described but my pain was on the side where my crack was. A cracked rib can also mean torn muscles not necessarily that you've actually broken a rib. With everything stretching and such its possible you could have pulled something. But for peace of mind, call the doctor.

Sweetie, first off - CONGRATULATIONS!! everyone is different with their pregnancies, but I had feelings like that. When you sneeze you do expand your abdomen and lungs. You can pull a muscle even without being pregnant and even more so when you are since you are already stretched. If you feel that everything is ok, and he is still having a ball in there you should be fine. If it still bothers you, ask you doctor at your next visit. Good Luck with the rest of your pregnancy and the joy of your upcoming child.

My doctor always told me that no question is too silly. If I had a concern, he would address it. Those quick, sharp pains are a side effect of pregnancy in the later months. They typically go away as fast as they come on, but if you're still having pain in the area, ask your doctor. That's what they're there for. The things you would worry about are if the baby isn't moving like he was before, leaking of fluids, bleeding, or severe swelling in the hands or face. Things your doctor has probably (I hope) already told you. Before you know it you'll be sitting in the hospital room holding your beautiful new baby! Time passes quickly, so take lots of pictures... good luck!

Yes..Your muscles and stomach are pulled soo tight, the slightest jerk can cause pain. I had the same thing with my baby which was also my first. Also, I had some numbness every once in a while because of her hitting and laying on a nerve in my stomach. Pretty weird but completely worth it.

No concerns at all when you sneezed it was just your muscles tightening up .Really you dont use them all that much as you used too so they are kinds getting bunched up.And with less space things tend to get pinched internally, and sometimes you could have gas that would also be a source of pain above the stomach. Just relax and if you are trully concerned call your doctor they can help better with your ?. But get some rest and as long as the baby moves normally than you are fine. good luck with your pregnancy. KeriW

Sounds like you may be in labor. I had that but it was my Uterus rupturing, don't worry though I had a c-section previously so my muscles were weak any way.

Congratulations! Your life is about to change is so many great ways. I just wanted to say that I had a sharp pain above my belly button and it was an umbilical hernia that required surgery after I had my daughter. Hopefully that is not what you have but make an appt with the doc anyways, better safe than sorry.
