Has Anyone Been Through This???? (Pregnancy Related Question)

I am 32 weeks along in my second pregnancy. Yesterday around 1:45 p.m. I started to have awful period like cramps out of no where and then my lower right back started to hurt. This pain continued for over an hour and I started to have pain/pressure around my bikini area so I called my doctor. They said I was having contractions and if I had more than 6 in an hour to go to the ER. I ended up going to the ER and was put on a monitor to check the contractions. The nurse about 20 minutes later said I was contracting every 1.5 to 3.5 minutes. She checked to see if I was dilated and I wasn't. She said I was 50% effaced at that time. She called my doctor and they ended up giving me medication to stop the contractions/labor. After two hours those seemed to wear off and just as I was being discharged another nurse said that my doctor called and said that since I was contracting again (now every 4 to 5 minutes) he wanted me to stay until he came in for rounds at 8:00 p.m. So my doctor arrived around 8:30 p.m. and looked at my contractions and checked me and I still hadn't dilated. He then said he wanted to give me a prescription to take every 8 hours to stop the contractions. He gave me my first dose at 8:55 p.m. and had me wait an hour before being discharged to see if I reacted okay to the medication. When I finally got home and was trying to go to sleep around midnight the contractions were still coming almost as if the medication didn't do anything and they felt the same intensity as before.

I went in this morning to get my prescription filled and I took another pill at 11:57 a.m. and am feeling the same contractions now at 3:20 p.m. as before.

When I called today to make an appointment per my doctor to see him tomorrow I was told by the nurse that I had failed my second glucose test on Monday. My numbers were 177 and it was supposed to be 140 or less. They are having me do a 3 hour test tomorrow morning before my appointment. I was also told a few weeks ago at my ultrasound that I have 21 cm of amniotic fluid when really 8 cm is what doctors look for or want you to have at least. I see that excessive amniotic fluid can result in pre-term labor and diabetes.

I am just wondering if anyone went through anything similar and what your outcome was.

What can I do next?

Hi there , I didn't have the failed glucose test like you , or in high level of fluid , but at 32 wks I did have contraction like pains that was not causing me to dilate. Mine ended up being an appendicitis (that ruptured) because they did not check for this. May be worth mentioning this and asking them to check to rule it out , my daughter had to be delivered at 34 wks because of the rupture.

Hello, I am so sorry you are going through this. I wish you the best in staying pregnant and having a happy birth later on. If you end up back in the hpospital and they want to try another medication to stop contractions, ask if it will hurt or burn as they inject it into your IV. If they say yes, ask if some pain med can be added to your IV at the same time. Again, I hope you are able to relax and have good health for the rest of your pregnancy!

I had pre term labor with my first and third child. Both they were able to stop the contractions though. Did they give you the shot to develope the lungs? I was put on bed rest until I was "full term" about 36-37 weeks. I was also admitted to the hospital for a few days and put on Magnesium sulfate. Good luck, I will send up a prayer for you. I know it is hard, but try not to stress, it will make it worse.

I had huge amounts of amniotic fluid, but no gestational diabetes. (my sisters also always had lots if fluid and no diabetes) I also dealt with early contractions and was in and out of the hospital and got medication. My Dr. told me to drink at MINIMUM 1 gallon of water a day. It was hard and I was in the bathroom constantly, but it really helped keep the contractions at bay. I also noticed when I did anything active, that I started to contract. I was put on modified bed rest. Between that and the water, the contractions were kept under control. I carried my baby until 2 days before my due date, but had him via c section. I didn't have the same experience as you, but you might try lots of rest and lots of water. Good luck!!

Dehydration can cause contractions. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. I was contracting pretty bad at 31 weeks... i still went on to have a full term baby. Everyone is different though.

Dont eat a lot of carbs or sugar and that will help keep your blood sugar down. I had gestational diabetes with my first and i had to really watch what i ate. Eat high fiber foods and veggies, and cut out the carbs. Drink lots of water, and i wouldn't worry to much about the high fluids yet. I had very high fluid levels around that time with my second and when i went in like a week or two later they were normal. It turns out the woman who checked them the first time measured wrong! So i worried for nothing. If they stay high then i would just talk to your dr about what could happen. Try to stay calm, and i hope everything goes good for you!
