I recently brought a puppy home and it is now thought that he has parvo. How can I disinfect my hard wood floors? Is there a way to add Clorox without ruining the floor? Thank you.

What can I do next?

If I want to disinfect my wood floors I add PineSol with my regular cleaner. It is pretty harsh but I have not had a problem with my floors in the 10 years I have been doing it. If you need to just spot clean I actually take disinfecting wipes and treat single areas.

I wouldn't use these techniques all the time but once and a while when needed it is fine. I wouldn't use bleach though, it will alter the color, break down the finish, etc.

Good luck!

Personally I would contact the manufactorer to see what they suggest for disinfecting or contact any store that sells them and ask them. They have more experience with those floors and pretty much know what is out there on the market. Even Pinesol seeems harsh to me. I would use vinegar and water before I used anything else. Did the vet know what you should use?

You could try a steam mop. If your floors are sealed you shouldn't have a problem with it. It cleans and kills germs with superhot steam, but it doesn't wet the floor like a traditional mop, so it dries superfast and won't harm your floors.

I agree on the PineSol. It's a disinfectant.
