Guitar Lessons for Husband ?????

My husband has been asking for Guitar lessons for his birthday. I have no idea where to even start looking. I am hoping that a mom out there might have a recommendation for either a person or a business that could help my husband learn how to play an acoustic guitar. What should I expect to pay for lessons? I would love for someone that is patient and willing to work with someone that has little to no prior knowledge.

We are in the Denton, Lewisville area but are willing to drive if needed.

My husband also wanted to learn how to play the guitar, and I signed him up for a class at Collin County Community College. It was $30 for a whole semester. That is the best deal I found, and the teacher was great!

Eric Keys in Denton Tx is the BEST teacher. If you have not already found someone let me know and I will get you his #. He is VERY reasonable, I dare to say the cheapest you will find. He has YEARS of experience and is very well known in the industry

I know a fantastic guitarist who also teaches. His name is Nick DiGennaro. I'm not sure what his prices are, but here is a link to his website. www.nickdmusic.com He is a great guy and a fantastic artist. I've heard him play on many occasions. Tell him C. from HeritageMakers referred you if you call. Good luck!

Depends on where you live. I live in Frisco - Anderson's Guitar Gallery & Grace Methodist were specifically recommended to me. New music school opening called 'NAMS' on Stonebrook Parkway too (met the owner). Most are $25 - $30 per 30 minute lessons. Just bought Guitar lessons on DVD at Costco for my husband & son to use. (Helpful!) Target provided a resource for a music/song book. I heard 'Music & Arts' offers various music lessons but haven't called them yet. As an adult, a self-learning dvd set might be a nice start and money saver before starting offficial, paid lessons.

I am not sure where you are, but I offer beginner acoustic guitar lessons and charge a flat fee per month. For a half hour lesson/week I charge $50, for an hour lesson/week I charge $100. I am in the Mesquite area, and teach out of our home. So far, all my students (kids right now, but I also teach my mother and am willing to teach just about anyone who would want to learn) say my lessons are fun.
If I am too far away, or you choose someone else, please make sure that the teacher teaches your husband how to read music, not just chords, and also not just how to play by ear. Several out there are doing just that, and to me that is not teaching music. It's good to be able to play by ear, but I feel one also needs to know how to read music note by note and also get into chords after you know several notes on the guitar. HTH!

My boys go to our friend, Bob R. He is in Carrollton Beltline/Marsh(near Addison) and charges $25 (private lesson) for a FULL hour...after the hour of teaching, he will often times spend another 10-15 minutes just to make sure the student is "getting" what they need to practice for the week. He is definitly not in a rush to get students in and out. He teaches all genres of music and is a very patient teacher. He teaches both children and adults and loves playing guitar! It will be hard for you to find a better deal than Bob...I promise! If you (or anyone else) is interested, send me a message and I'll give his number out to you...

Most of the teachers I know are in Frisco. If you go to some of the small shops, like Anderson Guitar Center in Frisco they can put you in contact with multiple guitar instructors.

Where do you live? Probably no where near me in Palestine, but I teach a beginner's group guitar class. The best place to look for a reference for a teacher is at your local music store. They usually have cards of teachers at their counters or ask for a reference.

Texas Woman's University offers music classes for the general public through the Office of Lifelong Learning. The sessions are 6 weeks long, structured for beginners to the more advanced, reasonably priced and are in the evenings to accommodate working people that want to take a class. They also offer dance classes through the same program. Call the main number at ###-###-#### and ask for the Office of Lifelong Learning; or, log into the main webpage at www.twu.edu and search for Lifelong Learning. The next session starts near the end of January, 2009. Enjoy!

If you live near Rockwall, Lake Pointe Church has a program called SOFA (Serving Our Father Artistically) and they offer guitar lessons for adults (and children) for a very reasonable cost (I can't remember exactly because both my son and my husband took lessons so the price was reduced). If you are Christians and he would enjoy learning to play praise music (like Chris Tomlin) it'll be a fun class to join.

Hands down, Troubador Music in Forney. If you don't live in the area, it is worth the drive.

My son started taking lessons from him about 5 years ago, and the owner of Troubador Music is the one that has taught him from day one. He has since had many gigs around the area, our city keeps asking him back, and he is playing at a New Years Eve lock-in! This is not even mentioning the fact that playing guitar has given my son such an inner peace, appreciation for music, and a purpose for his passion...

Not advertising here, but if you want to see where Kevin Curtis has taken my son in only 5 years, you can see my sons blog at www.myspace.com/sologuitaristlee. I think all he has on there is his favorite - metal - but he also plays all sorts of other music like jazz, blues, etc.

In the interest of full disclosure, I love what Troubador Music (and Kevin Curtis the owner) has done for my son so much that I now do marketing and scheduling for him. It is because I fully believe in how and why he teaches the instrument.
--
His prices are very average - if not below average. It is $30 per half hour, and lessons are 1/2 hour each week. There is a three month contract to sign, but if you pay it all up front, you will get a discount. Otherwise, you pay on a monthly basis.

To schedule lessons, or ask more questions, you can call the owner, Kevin Curtis at ###-###-####; or me, E. at ###-###-####.

And to answer your question, he is GREAT with beginners!

I'm not sure what area you're in, but we know people with music businesses in 2 places: in Flower Mound, we recommend Lone Star Music Academy, in Denton we would go to Denton Music Academy. I'm not sure about rates, but the people who run both are genuinely great people! Good luck!

This is so funny you posted this at the exact same time as I have been trying to find someone for my husband. I bought a guitar for my husband for Christmas and he was absolutely shocked and thrilled! It's something he's always wanted.

I found out that Mr. E's music (next door to Babies R Us at Arbrook and S. Cooper in Arlington) offers guitar lessons for $20 for 30 minutes. Then, we just got the UTA Continuing Education catalog in the mail yesterday and they are offering 4 weeks of lessons (1 1/2 hours long, one time a week) on Monday nights for $80. I'm sure my husband is going to sign up for something! Best wishes! B. P.

At Guitar Center stores, they have a billboard of people who give lessons, plus great deals on starter guitar packs. Someone there will be able to recommend a good way to get started.
